![Our smartphones are extensions of our bodies, rarely more than half a meter away from us. We get upset when they lose power. After all, they keep us connected, navigate us through the world, help us partake in capitalist struggles, mediate our intimacy. But beneath their perfect surfaces, bad vibes simmer. Our phones are built on systems of exploitation and extraction. They keep weaving us deeper into a technofascist fabric of surveillance and algorithmic control. They facilitate the harvesting of our every tap, our every move, for quiet resale. Our phones are karmic catastrophes.
What if those negative energies could be cleansed? Place your phone on the altar to activate the purifying ritual.

![The catalogue to our exhibition New Rituals [for the End of the World] is officially available in bookstores & online.
It features commissioned essays by Günseli Yalcinkaya, who writes about the return of monster times and Dr. Jenny Stümer from the Centre for Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies, who looks at rituals as profane illumination.
The book also features an introduction by the curators and an interview by Anan Fries with Taiwan’s Cyber Ambassador Audrey Tang on her Taoist understanding of tech and spirituality, on rituals and plurality.
We are truly honoured that Suzanne Treister, McKenzie Wark and Shumon Basar have accepted our invitation to devise new rituals for the catalogue.
Catalogue art direction and design is by iconic Mean Goddess.
We owe huge thanks to all contributors and artists, to the publishers at Christoph Merian Verlag and to the team of HEK House of Electronic Arts.

To mark the closing weekend of «New Rituals [for the End of the World]» at HEK, artist and curator Anan Fries shares insights into the exhibition and the inspirations behind their practice. Together, we explore techno-spirituality: the strange and fascinating meeting point of technology, belief and everyday life.
No prior knowledge is needed. Gipfeli, coffee and tea will be served.

![Making this exhibition together with the magical Marlene Wenger has been a wild joy ride.
Thanks so much to all participating artists and to the fantastic team of HEK for making this possible.
New Rituals [for the End of the World]
The Earth is burning. A genocide is being broadcast live. AI is worshipped like a god. Fascists swing chainsaws. Sam Altman cheerfully admits that his technology will probably destroy the world — but that Big Tech will profit from it. We are living through apocalyptic times.
The artists in New Rituals explore oracles in algorithms, ancestral knowledge and synthetic intelligence, sound healing and AI eschatology. Together, they ask what symbolic acts can hold us when the sky is falling — and what new ritual practices emerge at the intersection of tech and spirituality.
