I forgot to say that shrugs are also a vertical pull but they target the muscle fibers in a different way than pull ups, so it’s good to add those to your back days as well! taken in The Camp Transformation Center - Northridge by @hakoby_georgey

🔑 1 - Warm Up Properly

Use the same form you would use on your working sets in your warm up sets. Stay in the same rep range and feel it out. Try to actively engage your muscles with yiur mind and really feel the stretch and contraction.

🔑 2 - Have Proper Form and Tighten up/Engage the Whole Body before even lifting the bar

Before lifting the bar, retract your shoulder blades into the bench, keep your chest up with a slight arch in your lower back and place your hands evenly on both sides of the bar. Once you grab the bar, imagine you are “bending” the bar with your arms. This will engage your lats, tightening up your back muscles. Next, plant your feet into the ground and push into the ground with your legs. This will engage and tighten your glutes and core. Once your whole body is tight and all your muscles are engaged, now you may lift the bar to starting position.

🔑 3 - Take a deep breath before lowering the bar and exhale as you bring the bar up

Taking a deep breath will help further tighten up your body. The tighter your base (body) is when performing the movement, the stronger you will be and the safer the lift will be. If you lift without proper breathing, parts of your body will not be engaged and you may start overcompensating and this may lead to injury. When benching, some may hold their breath for more than one rep. This ensures you don’t get any leaks in your muscle chains, but there is the risk of passing out. I would recommend taking a deep breath every rep, especially when the weight gets heavy.

🔑 4 - Get an adequate amount of rest in between sets

Depending on your goals, rest times may change. If strength gains is what you’re after then I would rest as much as possible (2-5 minutes). If you’re looking for Hypertrophy (muscle mass increase) then I would stick to 1-2:30 minute rests. Although, there have been studies saying more rest is good even for muscle growth, you just have to make sure your working sets are intense enough to stimulate growth. I like to train with both strength and hypertrophy and the more rest the better, just don’t cool down too much. Move around, keep the blood flowing and get your mind ready. taken in The Camp Transformation Center - North Hollywood by @hakoby_georgey
