New collaboration between Hakumba and Angus MacDonald 🌞 Our dear friend, the mind-blowing artist and pianist behind @aritsugimusic blessed us with a magical painted animation for one of our most beloved songs from the new EP, “Walk in the Garden” — check it out on YouTube (link in bio)! On this track appeares Balázs Pattantyús from @legolassiband who lifted our music to a whole new dimension with his beautiful, sensitive string arrangements. Feeling very grateful to be surrounded by such inspiring creators and friends. Keep your eyes/ears open - our new EP is out on every streaming platform from March 30th! 🩷 And please go check out the mesmerising artworks of @angus.macdonald3 and reach out to him for collabs! by @hakumba_official

RELEASE DROP! Celebrating the arrival of spring with a fresh jazz EP by Hakumba, now live on Blue Sun’s Bandcamp page! We’re truly happy to welcome our good friends and outstanding musicians to the label. The release will also arrive on streaming platforms soon, as well as on a beautiful 10” vinyl edition featuring artwork by Eszter Lukács on the front and design by Péter Tóth on the back and labels - pre-orders are already open. The list of extraordinary contributors is further enriched by András Weil (producer and band member of The Qualitons), who produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered the 4-tracker. Formed in 2019 in Budapest, Hakumba is a staple of the Hungarian festival circuit, with a growing international presence (SXSW London, SHIP, PIN Music Showcase). They’ve recently finished a tour in Australia this January. The groove-driven ensemble blends afrobeat, jazz, and various strands of world music into a sound that is both rhythmically powerful and harmonically adventurous. With an eleven-piece lineup featuring an expansive horn section, multiple vocalists, percussion, and keys, the band moves effortlessly between dancefloor energy and more intricate, jazz-influenced musical ideas. Written in a one week jam session retreat in the Hungarian countryside, and recorded at one of the highest peaks of Hungary after a year of global touring, The Garden becomes an amalgamation of the band's personal and artistic experiences. The material conveys a more jazzier approach, with complex harmonies, and an almost cinematic, dreamlike atmosphere, somewhat distancing from (but not completely forgetting) the previously emphasized, dance-oriented Afro- and Latino roots. Song for Ramon serves as the EP’s emotional climax inspired by the passing of a close friend and local underground chef pioneer. Written & performed by: Soma Számel – drums Endre Szép – bass Imre Hegedűs – guitar Zalán Bendegúz Huff – guitar, vocals Csongor Mari – keys Noel Nagy – percussion, vocals Dorka Foster – flute, vocals Kristóf Szabó – alto sax Alpár Sikó – tenor sax Gáspár Simon – trumpet András Téglásy – baritone sax Endre Kertész – cello Balázs Pattantyús – viola Link in bio... by @hakumba_official

NEW RELEASE IN THE CATALOGUE → The 11-member band Hakumba blends afrobeat with jazz and various world music influences. In addition to the five-piece brass section that defines the band’s sound, the numerous vocalists, diverse percussion instruments, keyboards, and guitars make their musical world both powerful and detailed. Danceability and complexity organically come together in their songs. The band has become a permanent fixture of Hungarian festival life in recent years, while their presence is also increasingly active internationally. They have performed at several European showcase festivals, including SXSW London, SHIP and PIN Music Showcase, and toured in Australia. Give it a listen at undersync.pub by @hakumba_official
