I’m looking forward to present my research ‘Kite Flying in the Caribbean’ at @southlondongallery on Saturday 27th June. We’ll be making Guyanese ‘Caddy Ole’ Punch’ kites (images 2 and 10). Expect loads of colourful stickers, paper and ribbon 🪄

Alongside my workshop, my short film of the St. Mary Food & Kite Festival will be shown, where I travelled to Jamaica in 2022 for it. I’m so excited to share this project again

This is a free workshop part of SLG’s Windrush Family Day, aimed for 5-12yr olds. If you happen to be in the area and pass through to watch the film, you’re more than welcome to. Please share this with people with young ones. 🌬️✨bring your nieces and nephews if you want to join in

Today is the opening of SLATROP (Portals) a virtual exhibition by @blacksofaredotna curated by @makeilanevette and @codylockyear

SLATROP explores the phenomenon of Black art as a source of reflection: first for the artist, second for the witness. Within this reflection, two portals are created: one amongst the ritual of creation, the second amongst the ritual of witnessing.

Drawing inspiration from the first of BoA’s 2026 theme ‘time’, SLATROP explores cultural preservation through the digital space, and portals as both artistic and spiritual technology. The exhibition features works from artists creating on @aredotna / @blacksofaredotna

The exhibition goes live today at 1pm EDT USA / 7pm GMT UK. Link in bio by @halina___edwards

Some things going on during my metal course. I’m not sure what I’m going to make, and if I’m going to ‘make’ anything at all, but I’m really into curves and textures if you can tell ♾️ by @halina___edwards

‘Ring Shout’ (2025) by Halina Edwards, currently on view at SET 91 until 7 December as part of the ‘Under Archives’ exhibition.

Ring Shout presents a continuous loop of shells - objects historically used in burial rituals to ensure the deceased’s safe passage into the afterlife. Spanning timelines of grief, from the graves of African Americans in the American South to ancient Egyptian culture, the shell becomes a vessel of continuity, echoing intimacies embedded in the artist’s Jamaican-British experience.

Through this work, Edwards gestures toward the dualities of grief - the weight of loss and the tenderness of communal care - evoking the gentleness of the Nine Night: a collective celebration of life that carries the departed onward.

Exhibition dates: 15 November - 7 December
Admission: Free
Location: 91 Tabernacle Street, London, EC2A 4JN

‘Bringing together seven international research-based artists and the Sri Lankan Archive Collective, Under Archives explores the personal and collective dimensions of archiving. The exhibition highlights practices that expose and resist decades of inequities, neglect, and erasure in the process of archiving and remembering, questioning whose narratives are protected and whose are obscured.’

From the earth to the soil. The best kind of resistance is music.

Lovindeer ‘Wild Gilbert’ - a song made in response to Hurricane Gilbert which struck Jamaica as a category 3 hurricane in 1988. Discovered through my mom as she sang this from time to time

Baka women water drumming - it’s said that African water drumming has spiritual significance to the forest spirit called Jeni, communicating with spirits and honouring the natural world

Tamboo bamboo - a bamboo drum created in Trinidad and Tobago in response to the British governments ban on skinned drums during enslavement by @halina___edwards
