We have concluded our Signature Field Experience with Hampton City Schools for the year. Over 630 seventh graders were introduced to General Samuel Chapman Armstrong and Hampton University's historical founding. As part of the school curriculum on Reconstruction, students viewed ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜—๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜“๐˜ช๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜บ and visited the Emancipation Oak. Gone but never forgotten ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿค

The @hamptonumuseum has honored Onyx 8โ€™s own Michael โ€œBig Mikeโ€ Crawford with his own permanent exhibit.

During the first semester of senior year, Mike wrote a proposal for Hampton to support a lacrosse team. Devastatingly, he never saw this come to be due to his shocking and untimely passing over Christmas break that same year. Following his death, his parents Verina Mathis-Crawford and Errol Crawford worked with the university to get the first-ever lacrosse club at Hampton organized. This exhibit honors his legacy to Hampton and the universityโ€™s athletics program.

If you have the opportunity during homecoming, we encourage you to visit this exhibit and not only remember his contributions to Hampton lacrosse, but also remember his warm hugs, his kind heart, and the light he brought to our class and all who encountered him.

RIP Big Mike. Our time with you was short, but your impact is endless. ๐Ÿค by @hamptonumuseum
