Ko te taenga mai tēnei o Hine Takurua ki ngā pae maunga o Te Waipounamu.
The arrival of Hine Takurua marks a temporary pause for me in visiting to these sacred maunga of Te Tauihu, Te Waipounamu. Today’s visit was an acknowledgement of the maunga and the koha received over the season but also to let the maunga know it’s time to rest and that we will meet again next season.
May the tīkumu rest among the ice and snow, held gently by the maunga until the return of Hine Raumati, when our wānanga with these landscapes will begin once again. by @hamuera89

Just a small nod to Taku Rau Tīkumu, these images capture moments from the past few years of working with tīkumu, creating taonga, and sharing that journey with the many incredible people who have been part of it.

Much of this mahi has centred on the making of kākahu, specifically kahu tīkumu. None of this would have been possible without the support of the team at Kew Museum in London, who hosted us and enabled us to spend time with the remarkable kahu tīkumu taken there by Walter Mantell in 1856. Seeing and studying that taonga firsthand became a pivotal part of this journey, directly informing the creation of two contemporary kākahu: Te Heiwi, now held at Te Papa, and most recently Te Hiringa Tawhito, now on display in Taku Rau Tīkumu. by @hamuera89

KOHĀ - Nelson Museum 2025 as part of @nelsonjewelleryweek

Loved that we were able to place our taonga with some of @nelsonmuse collection of taonga.
Was amazing to see reimagined and revived traditions sitting with those that we draw inspiration and korero from. These pieces sit in a state of VA or wahi, sharing vibrations, mauri and korero while we the viewer also interpret and interact with the taonga.

Present works from @nekemoa @timsteelstone and myself @ukumad, also LOVE the shard reels #amazing taken in Nelson Provincial Museum Pupuri Taonga o Te Tai Ao by @hamuera89
