DDW VISITS / @handcraftedtile
Kim Shelton (@kimicorazon) knows tile in the way only someone who grew up around it can. From Saltillo — what she calls “the wood of the Southwest” — to manganese, red terracotta, and specialty finishes, she has favorites, stories, and little tidbits on what makes each one special.

Handcrafted is a Phoenix based family-fun company that has been part of the Southwest design landscape for over 60 years. Built on long-standing relationships with artisans in Mexico, whose handmade traditions and craftsmanship have been passed down through generations.

From the shores of Sumberkima to the mountains of Munduk; this most recent journey to Bali with @tierradellagarto’s Meg, Linda and Doug Blum could not have been more epic!! To see their breathtaking new build in Ubud @umarembulan and to get a glimpse of some of the sourcing they do for the store was so fun!! Not to mention some new possible tile sources, colors and ideas. We saw ancient stone, modern tile, monkeys, waterfalls, jungle and beaches. Plus gorgeous villa stays. I honestly feel so grateful to have had such an amazing adventure!! Take a look! 💚💙🩵 #lovebali #tdltravels #handcraftedtile #tileadventures #umarembulan by @handcraftedtile

Handcrafted Tile (@handcraftedtile) is a family story — the kind that’s shaped Arizona homes for more than 60 years. Most people know founder Phil Shelton, the engineer-turned-importer who helped bring handcrafted tile to the Valley in the late ’60s and became known as Arizona’s “King of Mexican Tile.” But this piece shines a light on his daughter, Kim Shelton (@kimicorazon), who grew up traveling with her dad to Mexico, speaks fluent Spanish, and still considers many of the artisans and suppliers family.

One of Naida’s beautiful fireplaces that she drew for one of our long time customers. We then had it hand carved from our Allende Antique stone!! Just love the detail even inside the firebox with other handmade tiles. Timeless! @lacasabuilders taken in Paradise Valley, Arizona by @handcraftedtile

It is with sad hearts today that we inform you our dear Naida Brooks passed away peacefully this morning in her home with her family beside her. Naida worked at Handcrafted Tile for more than 35 years. She hand drew our architectural drawings, she made hand carved tile molds, designed so many tiles, fireplaces, fountains and she even designed metal tiles with a foundry. Most of all she was beloved by all of us and especially by our customers. We love you Naida and we miss you already. by @handcraftedtile
