D-1 SOCKTOBER! There are many spectacular things about sock knitting but one of them has got to be the scraps you end up with. For my US7 feet, I end up using 40g of the main colour and 20g of the contrast.

This means you can very well knit two pairs with one set but it also means you can knit a tiny little scarf like @toriknitsnyc's Star Scarf.

If you learn to knit a hat now you can knit hats for everyone you have grievances with for Festivus! (This is a Seinfeld reference.) Love your enemies and all that. (This is a religious reference.)

We still have spots in our Sunday First Hat class, which goes over two days, Oct 4 and 18 at 2:30 pm. If you've taken our beginner class, this is exactly where you need to be to start getting into the groove of in the round knitting with a circular needle which opens up many knitting possibilities.

It'a the most wonderful time of year in less than a week! SOCKTOBER IS COMING. You KNOW I've made Tracy let me do all sorts of shinanegans to celebrate. More info coming soon on sales, giveaways, etc! But for now, be aware there is ONE spot left in our Saturday Sock 101 class and in case there's more of you that want to learn the grand joyous magic of sock knitting I volunteered to teach a run of classes on Tuesday evenings. Schedule appended below. Get s(t)ocked!

For Oct 18th start date, the schedule is:

Session One: 1pm-2pm
Session Two: 1pm-4pm
Session Three: 1pm-3pm

For October 6th (evening class) start date, the schedule is:

Session One: 5pm-6pm
Session Two: 5pm-8pm

LEARN TO MAKE THESE! It's okay, we can bust out the pumpkins. It's officially autumn now. If you can do a chain stitch, a single crochet, and a double crochet, and you are THRILLED it is magical gourds season, this crochet class is for you.

Over Saturdays Oct 3 and 17 1 pm to 3 pm, you'll learn how to do the very pretty wheat stitch and hone your gauge meeting skills! It will be an excellent time to turbo charge your way from beginner status to ADVANCED beginner status. A wonderful follow up to our intro crochet class!

I am obsessed with this DK weight "sock" yarn. Obviously I will be knitting some socks with it but also a hint for you: you can knit not-socks with it. Hats, of course. Mittens. Little scarves. And, also, while we have enough, sweaters. You really need to feel these things. It's made with virgin wool, the first sheared wool of newly minted sheepies! by @handknityarn

Don't want to knit a tiny creature? How about a tiny sweater for a tiny creature? When Laura folded up this baby Anker sweater it was the size of a button. Not a joke, only a slight exaggeration. We got a restock of just the yarn for it: Superwash Merino DK in some real good colours! Thnx @estelleyarns! by @handknityarn

Style tip: oversized is in! To achieve this look, 1) try on trousers after eating a lot of faux-Chinese food at the mall food court and buy the size that is comfortable and then spend the rest of your life pulling them up; and 2) pull off the amazingly soft Super Basic Tee from the shop display that Tracy OR pick a colour of the restocked Silk Mohair Lux and get knitting! by @handknityarn

Sometimes I'm like "WHY BOTHER" and then we get in new sock yarn lines at the shop. It makes me remember: things may pass away but I will always have first dibs on sock yarn and this is worth fighting for. What a hopeful gesture to buy sock yarn. These are what I brought home. Some day they will be socks for some marvelous person (probably me but maybe someone else [this is a threat]).

They are each wonderful in their own way. The linen tweed is so soft and comes in banging yet wearable colours, the Flotte Sock is just SO FUN and the Lang Tweed 6 Ply will be so cozy for deep midwinter. Come and pet them!
