👉 Small Ruffle Hack Details:

Cut x1 piece of fabric 80cm wide (1.7X width of bodice) x 11 cm high

Fold in half wrong sides together and press

Starting and ending 1.5cm from the edge, add gathers x2 rows within 1cm SA

With right sides together, stitch ends of the mini ruffle into the top sides of skirt piece 1 / tier 1, then stitch skirt piece 1 together as per pattern instructions and add gathers as per instructions.

WIth right sides together, pull and gather mini ruffle to match the length of the bodice.

Baste stitch in place

Then pull skirt tier 1 gathers to match the length of the bodice and mini ruffle - the mini ruffle, bodice piece and skirt tier 1 piece should be right sides together. Pin in place.

✨ Welcome to the quickest tutorial EVER, on how to make an elastic waistband skirt 💁🏼‍♀️😅
See the written instructions below 👇

DIY ELASTIC RUFFLE SKIRT:

You Will Need:
Fabric for your skit!
Elastic 5 inch wide - I would suggest 7cm less than your waist measurement (check to make sure it fits snugly!)

1. Measure your waist and X by 1.5. Divide this new measurement in half and cut x2 pieces this wide X how long your want the skirt.

2. Cut a waistband at the same measurement (1.5 X your waist), X 13cm long

3. With right sides together, sew the skirt sides together with a 1cm SA and finish the edge (overlock or zig zag stitch!)

4. Also sew your waistband sides (the short sides) together, finish and fold in half, so the wrong sides are touching and give it a press!

5. Place your skirt inside the waistband, and pin it to the top of your skirt, so the raw edges are meeting.

6. Sew together with a 1cm SA, but leave a 3 inch gap at the back!
7. Thread your elastic through the skirt, making sure it doesn’t get twisted and sew the ends of the elastic shut

8. Sew the gap you left before and overlock / zig zag the edges.

9. Hem your skirt by folding over 1cm and 1cm.

How to sew with slippery fabrics 101 🐍🐍

We all know these kind of fabrics can be waaaay more tricky to wrangle when sewing, so here’s some sewing tips to help you when you’re starting out with any kind of fabric that is even remotely slippery! (think rayon, polyester, cotton sateen - the list goes on!) 😅

👉Use a ball point needle in a fine (smaller) size

👉Interface your facings, bias binding and any straps for extra strength, and to avoid gaping

👉Don’t skip stay-stitching, especially around a curved neckline and underarms arms

👉Pin the shit out of everything!
And use special silk pins (they’re less likely to cause snags in your lovely fabric and will hold everything firmly in place!)

👉Always keep your project flat on your work surface, never dangling off the table. You’re asking for trouble otherwise!

NEVER have I ever been soooo incredibly late in posting one of my FAVOURITE-EVER makes since I started sewing 🙈🤯🫢

Finally introducing my hacked #montytop by the infamous @mykeepernz 😍😍🤍

This was my most recent birthday dress that I made using a combination of 2 fabrics from @lincraft.

👉The first fabric is a sheer lace and the lining was a simple black rayon but it worked perfectly with the lace on top!

👉 Mods:
I lengthended the bodice by about 20cm, then added a mini ruffle at 2X the width of the bodice circumference.

So much fun and festive-ness! 🎉🎉🤍

Did a quick bit of shopping last week at @lincraft ✨🤗 (literally pulled in on our way to the airport so I could top up my fabric stash. Yes, I have a very obliging husband) 😅🙈

👉 I picked up some really sweet fabrics (all their fabrics are 50% off right now 🤯including sales on wool for any fellow knitters out there!) So here’s a list of what I’m planning to make (though if you have any other ideas let me know!!) ✨✨

2 posts in one day 🤯😂 the algorithm may hate me right now, but wanted to snap this pretty little stash that I picked up a few days ago 🥹
The colours! The textures! I’m in looove! 🤗

✨You may have heard I’m a sucker who can’t resist and insisted to my husband we pop in to @lincraft literally on the way to the airport so I could make the most of their half price fabric sale 😂😂 He willingly obliged 😉 they also have amazing sales on their yarn which was also VERY tempting 🙈

☁️ A sneak peak at this white puff sleeve dress of my dreaaaaaams! ✨
I made this a few weeks ago, just in time (literally JUST in time) for our anniversary getaway 😅
The bodice is a heavily hacked #axisdress by @papercutpatterns and the rest I improvised and made up on the fly! 🙈

👉Am posting in my stories tomorrow about how I made this hack (promise it’s actually really easy!)

☁️ Back details of this sweet #wattlebirdcami by @common_stitch I made a while ago! ✨

👉 I definitely have found that the more I sew and as time goes on, my tastes change and I’m not always reaching for the same garments that I used to! (And I’m one of those crazy ladies who does a house clean out every 6 months) 😅 😜 This one went to a new home a while back, but it’s so nice to know that something hand crafted is still being loved and worn, because I don’t think we should feel we “have” to hold on to garments just because we made them. It’s much fairer on them to get worn by someone who loves them and will actually take them off the hanger! 😂😂🤗
