Throwback to when I summoned up all the energy within me to create this bowl of tangy goodness (that we call "Assam Laksa" in Malaysia) from scratch (bar the noodles which came from a pack) 😎

This was pre-kids obviously as it would be too hard to manage making it on my own at the moment without anyone to help out ! It was my first attempt at making it so I was pretty damn proud of it 😄

The only ingredient I left out was the "bunga kantan" which seemed to be only available in frozen packages at certain Asian grocers in Adelaide and only certain times of the year ... Though if anyone can tell me otherwise and have any ideas on where to source them please let me know !

Assam laksa (sometimes referred to as Penang laksa - in honour of the state of its origins in Malaysia) has got to be my favourite Malaysian dish and though a handful of cafes have them on their menus in Adelaide, I decided to give it a red hot crack on my own ✨

Some people ask what's the difference between assam laksa and just laksa ... Well "assam" or "asam" is basically a Malay word for tamarind which lends to the sour flavour of the broth. A normal laksa is often just a mix of sweet / salty / spicy meanwhile an authentic bowl of assam laksa has a fish-based soup packed with a combination of sour, spicy, sweet, salty, and umami flavours that will leave you wanting more 🤤🤤🤤

And if you love anything sour and spicy , we can be good friends 😂🤭🫶🏼🫶🏼

{Edit : Sept 2025}
Hey guys, a bit of "About Me" spill here. I had originally started this IG account in the peak of COVID 2020 to document my homecooking adventures + dining escapades at some of my fav cafés/restaurants in Adelaide, South Australia (also a space where I can offload all my camera snaps and then free up my phone storage lol). I took a hiatus some time in 2021 but just recently decided to dust off the cobwebs and get back into it now ! I'm passionate about supporting local businesses so here's me blogging about my all my food finds around Adelaide and sharing bargains of bites worth roaring about ✨

ADELAIDE…there’s a little dessert 🍰🍵🍨🍓pop-up in the city you’ll want on your radar ‼️

The mochi basque cheesecake combo really surprised me. Think, chewy mochi with the rich creamy cheese within ! 😋😋😋

They also do Japanese roll cakes, matcha lattes, panna cotta and other mochi items (Dubai chocolate mochi, daifuku mochi…). Love that the cake and panna cotta I had were not too sweet! I

Adelaide dessert lovers, save this for your next sweet escape👇🏼

ADELAIDE…Not all ramen is created equal… 👀 When your pork bone broth takes 22 HOURS to make, you know they’re not playing around ! 🍜🔥

Chances are, you’ve probably already heard about this one or been to their sister restaurant, Toriok…but if you haven’t been, then this is your sign to go check them out ! 🍜

What we had:
• Signature Tonkotsu Ramen — creamy and rich, loveee the broth !!! 💯💯💯 Honestly one of, if not the BEST pork based broth I’ve had for ramen in Adelaide
• Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen — perfect amount of chilli in my opinion to give it a bit of that kick 🌶️
• Abura Soba — this is good if you prefer something brothless though I must say, it was a bit on the salty side for me which made me prefer the brothless Mazesoba at Toriok

The only other thing was that the noodles appeared a bit clumped together and slightly overcooked this visit though I may have just caught them on an off day. Might have to come back another time but the broth was absolutely amazing ! 🤤🤤🤤 Hard to say if I prefer pork or chicken based broth now 🤭

ADELAIDE…this might be the most unexpected juice / smoothie bar in town 👀

We came to try their Dream range of smoothies ($10.90 each) — all of which use almond milk !🥛

Ocean 🌊: mango, pineapple, passionfruit, banana, blue spirulina, collagen powder, almond milk, honey

Tropical 🌴: mango, pineapple, passionfruit, maple syrup, collagen powder, almond milk, honey, yoghurt

Coco 🍫: banana, blueberry, cacao powder, vanilla protein, dates, peanut butter, flaxseed, almond milk, honey

Strawberry 🍓: strawberry, banana, mint, vanilla protein, collagen powder, strawberry syrup, honey, almond milk, yoghurt

My faves would have to be the Coco (great addition with the peanut butter) and Strawberry (elite combo with the mint🌿) !✨

They also do a whole heap of other stuff like protein balls, jelly, panna cotta, chia pudding, açai bowls, frappes, Thai milk tea, sugarcane juice, sea star dumplings in Thai red curry, tomyum soup and ... MANGO STICKY RICE ‼️😱😱😱

Honestly did not see that last one coming but let me tell you, it was dangerously good !!! 💯💯💯

This is definitely no ordinary juice/smoothie bar. If you're a fan of mango sticky rice (or even durian ones which is what they do as well!) this your sign to check them out 😉

ADELAIDE...the portions here are giving “you WILL be taking leftovers home!" 👀👀👀

Only just discovered this Italian 🇮🇹 restaurant that's been around for 17 years and when I saw their Google reviews highlighting "generous portions", I understood why 💯💯💯

What we had:
🦀 Taglierini Granchio (blue swimmers crab pasta) — perfect amount of chilli 🌶️ and beautiful rose sauce...SO YUMS
🧀 Arancini — MASSIVE and it tasted amazing together with the sauce that came with it !
🍄‍🟫 Risotto Pollo Funghi — this was honestly one of the BEST risotto I’ve had in Adelaide !!! 😍
🥗 Radicchio salad — loved the addition of the oranges !🍊
🐟Atlantic salmon (special of the day) — the fennel and mashed potatoes beneath were the perfect combo 🤌🏽
🍩 Housemade zeppole with chocolate ganache + vanilla ice-cream — heaven at first bite omgosh loveddd the zeppole so much 😋😋😋

It's easy to see why this place has always been so popular amongst the local crowd ! From pasta to pizzas (pizzas only available 5-9pm Tues-Sun) and everything in between, this is the kind of spot you come to hungry — and leave very, very satisfied.

17 years later, they’re still doing what they do best: feeding people well ♥️

Save this for your next Italian meal👇🏽

ADELAIDE…if you haven’t already heard or been here, then you might be missing out on the fun‼️👀 The inner child within me was low-key more excited about watching the trains 🚂🚊🚄🚞🚅 go by than the food 🤭

The way it works here is you first choose your soup base which then gets delivered in individual pots via the “train track” to where you’re seated. After that, you pretty much just go crazy grabbing whatever fresh ingredients you like off the conveyor belt (and these are priced based on the colour of containers they turn up in much like the concept in a sushi-train shop).

But let’s 👏🏽 talk 👏🏽 about 👏🏽 the variety of soup bases available here omgosh 😍... ngl I had a bit of decision fatigue choosing but thankfully went as a group so got to taste a few different ones ! These were what we had:
🌶️ Double Flavour (Hot&Spicy + Golden Sour) — I was so happy when I saw they do double flavour pots ! The Hot&Spicy definitely had the heat 🥵, was more spicy than what I can usually take and on the oily side so I preferred the Golden Sour 😋 (my personal top fav pick)
🍅 Tomato Soup — 2nd fav ! It’s not spicy so great for the kids 😉
🔴 Probiotics Red Sour Soup — this tastes quite similar to the Golden Sour but I still preferred the other

The other things I LOVE about this place:
‼️FREE UNLIMITED ‼️ snacks (prawn crackers, fried sesame balls...), sauces, sides, rice, desserts (soft serve🍦and DIY bingsu/shaved ice) 😍😍😍

Seriously guys, you have to get on board !👇🏽

ADELAIDE...if you're in search for upscale Modern Australian dishes in a white-tablecloth setting, look no further than this establishment that's been around since 1989 located just 8 minutes from the city centre! ✨

This award-winning restaurant of 37 years is housed within a beautifully restored historical residence — and when you walk in, you will see the most stunning atrium (where I had the pleasure of being seated at this visit 🥰)

We started off with some sourdough + cultured butter and went straight into the mains where we had the incredible Trio of Beef 🥩 which was absolute perfection 💯💯💯 (we requested ours medium-well and from L-R in the reel you'll see; the first tenderloin was accompanied with bone marrow crust + borderlaise, next was the green peppercorns + cream + demi-glace, followed by the Spencer Gulf prawn + honey soy + rosemary jus). My personal fave was the green peppercorns.

We also had the Coorong market fish 🐟which comes with mussels, prawns, lobster bisque, lemon and basil. Couldn't get enough of the lobster bisque 🦞

We were recommended to get some potato 🥔 roschti on the side and I loveddd the crunch from these ! Also had the cos lettuce salad 🥗 with fennel, orange and radish and the dressing was amazing, even my older one was happy to finish it! 😋

Finished off with the meringue (with lemon mousse, seasonal fruit, mango and pepper syrup) and the cheesecake (comes with raspberry, rose and toffee) — both were devoured completely in minutes though I preferred the former 😊

It was my first time here and it was such a wonderful fine-dining experience 🥰. The staff were lovely and attentive (thank you Michael!). Will definitely want to come back to try their high-tea some time as well 🫖

Save this for your next date spot or celebrating a special occasion ! 😊

ADELAIDE...if you're a matcha lover like me, and haven't already been here, you honestly HAVE to ‼️ I was mega impressed by the "Matcha Made in Heaven" Bingsu —it tasted exactly that ! 😍

Judging by the green colour of the matcha they use, you can tell it's going to be good ! The rich, beautiful, earthy kind 💚

Also got to try their "Less Talk, More Taro" 💜 and loved that they used blueberry popping pearls ! 😋

I'm definitely trying their "Once Upon A Thai" next time I'm back !

Price per bowl of bingsu may appear on the steeper side but for the portion you get, I'd say you're getting what you pay for 😉 They're definitely made to share but not gonna lie, on an empty stomach, I could have the entire bowl on my own (especially the matcha one!!) 🤭

🍜 Pad See Ew with chicken $20.90 from @lapause.au — I love how you can taste the breath of the wok 🔥
🍚 OG Trio Broken Rice $23 from @comtamthan — that chargrilled pork was soooo flavoursome !!! 🤤 also, their meat spring rolls were delish
🍵 Salted Maple Matcha $10.90 from @miko.matcha — my first time having sucha flavour combo and it did not disappoint! Can see why it's a crowd favourite !

ADELAIDE, we need to talk about this mochi shop ! ✨

If you haven’t had mochi before, they are a form of Japanese sweet chewy dessert made of glutinous rice flour or similar that usually has some kind of filling inside (peanuts, red bean...). They can be steamed or deep-fried and both types are sold here.

I personally prefer the classic steamed ones but the deep fried versions are just as good ! 😋

Save this for your next sweet craving 👇🏽
