🥳 Salome is out now!

Thank you SO MUCH for your support with this one. I didn't expect this novel about a Victorian novice nun slaying vampires to blow up as much as it has.

Salome is now available anywhere that sells books online. Thank you to everyone who pre ordered, shared, commented, and to those who left an ARC review too to get the word out.

This book is so special to me. You don't have to know the Muldoon supernatueal thriller series to be able to read and enjoy this one, but if you have read the Muldoon books, this gives you a lot more of Muldoon's history and more depth to his character.

If you love Gothic vampire stories, Gothic horror and religious horror, you might want to read Salome. by @hannadelaneyauthor

Catholic or religious horror novels and non-fiction that I loved:
1. The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. The greatest of all time, it's definitely a classic. I loved the slow, eerie tension he built throughout and the real, palpable fear that we can all have in this world, but also the terror of something happening that you can't explain or just take a tablet for.
2. Rosemary's Baby. Wile this novel by Levin also carries themes and messages about bodily autonomy and he brought the Gothic terror into modern day Manhattan, this book also carries a lot of religious themes and paralells. Rosemary leaves a safe community and travels to the bnig city where plenty of waifs and strays go missing or worse. Rosemary is befriended by Satanists and it gets worse from there, as you probably know.
3. The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley. This is a chilling, deeply unsettling book and I think what I loved most about this was that there aren't always answers, which is terrifying if you really think about it. There are some horrors you can't be comforted from.
4. The Rite by Matt Baglio. This is non-fiction but there is a horror film of the same name trying to tell the story of one priest's experience. This is a gripping, but hard read at times. What's eye-opening about it is how many more exorcists the church needed to recruit in the 21st century. It's a great book and anyone who likes Catholic horror should definitely read it.
If you love gothic horror with religious themes, you'll probably like my next book, Salome. It's about a novice Catholic nun who becomes a vampire slayer in 1880s Liverpool.

The questions I asked myself when writing Salome!
I had so many questions writing vampires. I think this was the most intimidating project so far, purely because vampires have been done before so many times!

Salome is out on Friday 16th October.

Six Gothic vampire books that I devoured:
1. The Vampyre by John Polidori. Polidori was a contemporary of Lord Bryon, and this is considered to be a vampire story inspired by Byron's behaviours in the social circles he and Polidori shared. This is also the first time a vampire has been portrayed as a predatory aristocrat. This image was refined again and again until we got to Count Dracula in 1897.
2. Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. This is another foundational vampire novella. First published in 1872, this story is about a mysterious noblewoman named Carmilla who preys on young girls. She is powerful, predatory and knows how to manipulate entire villages. I loved this story as not only is Carmilla a female vampire but she is blatantly a lesbian. Great Victorian literature.
3. Dracula. This is the most famous one, surely. Dracula has been immortalised (excuse the pun) by countless retellings and adaptations. Even Nosferatu is a tribute to Dracula. Most of the lore surrounding Dracula was actually established by Hollywood, including the big collared cape!
4. Salems lot by Stephen King. I first read this last year and I loved it. King has a way of giving you a chunky book that is also impossible to put down. The themes in this one really spoke to me. We had evolved beyond the vampire as a symbol of sexuality and repressed desires and more of a vampire being a metaphor for the death of small towns, globalization and modernity.
5. Interview With The Vampire. This is an absolutely beautiful Gothic horror story about an 18th century man who becomes a vampire only to spend the next 200 years fighting against what he has become. This is a stunning novel, and having a child vampire and all the grief that comes with that was wonderful. Rice is one of the greats of vampire horror for a reason.
6. The Vampyre by Tom Holland. I was initially quite harsh in my review of this vampire novel, but I am still thinking about it so maybe it was better than I gave it credit for. It's a fictional retelling of Byron's life as a vampire in 18th and 19th century Greece. This story is monstrous, chilling and actually, quite plausible.
Then, if you want more Gothic vampires= Salome. by @hannadelaneyauthor

She was just a novice when she murdered another sister. She confessed and waited for them to send her to the gallows. But they didn't. The murder revealed two things:
1. Salome has a gift.
2. The enemy now knows where she is.
She leaves Italy and is brought to a clandestine order in Liverpool. But she must prove herself if she wants to stay.
Salome has a gift, and her guides hope she will use it for good, but it is not up to them.

Can't help myself.

How do you like your scouse? I usually use the lamb mince and the beef chuck and add leeks, potatoes as well as onions and carrots. I use treacle, beef stock and even a bit of Worcestershire sauce.

For those who don't know, scouse is a local delicacy and has been for over a century now! Everyone has their own version of this stew.

This extract is from Salome, a Gothic horror novel about a young Italian novice who comes to Liverpool in the 1880s.

She struggles to rest and recover. That's because every time she sleeps, she is haunted by an enemy she doesn't know how to fight.
Her guides can't help her, they can only hope she uses her powers for good. But it's not up to them.
God has made her suffer. Demons promise comfort.

Salome is a Gothic, religious horror mystery set in the same world as Occult detective Daniel Muldoon, but this is a standalone prequel novel.
Salome is for fans of classic Gothic horror, supernatural Gothic, vampire stories and classic Gothic horror like Dracula. Fans of religious horror like The Exorcist will enjoy the battle between good and evil as well as found family and the tough decision of doing the right thing even though it's the hardest one.
