@hannadelaneyauthor once again delivers on the creeping dread of Gothic Victorian England with SALOME.

Taking the reader from Italy to England after the titular character is cast out of her convent following the murder of another sister, something dark and tantalizing stalks Salome every step of the way as she explores her past and the origins of her mysterious powers, examines her present and the paths the lie before her, and questions whether her miraculous abilities are a gift from God, a cross to bear, or a weapon to be wielded.

Salome joins a clandestine order of gifted nuns on a mission to fight Evil truest forms, amping up the stakes in the religious horror novel. But as Salome struggles to embrace her new reality, training her gifts alongside her sisters, so too do those who work against God increase their efforts, haunted day and night by those who would have her stray from the light.

With skirmishes taking place in both the waking world and within dreams, readers get all the complex layers of this troubled nun, peeled back and laid bare without sparing on pain or benediction for our heroine. You’ll become engrossed in Salome's internal struggles, but also in the old magics of religion and faith burning bright as Delaney unleashes the likes of vampyres and demons upon the reader; reminding us that where the dread ends, the gore begins. Entirely thrilling and delightfully macabre.

Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. I lust for more of this tortured nun.

The first 7 days are done so here’s what I finished over the last week of my spooky reading month!

I finished immortal dark and eternal ruin by @tigestgirma 5 ⭐️ absolutely loved them I’ll give a full book chat about them soon!

Wolfworm by t.kingfisher. 3.5 ⭐️ I found it landed kinda flat and a bit boring. It started off nice and creepy then it lost me. If there is a different book I should try by the author let me know!

Salome by @hannadelaneyauthor was an arc read and I loved it! I did a review you can find on my page!

The Whitby ripper was also an arc read this month from @jg.caruso.author it blends detective/police murder mystery with vampires! Also loved it!

Currently almost finished starving saints by @authorcstarling a medieval horror which I’m so drawn into and obsessed with

I’m also reading Kaiju battlefield sudden but my phone decided not to film that! I live some gore so this is right up my alley!

What are you reading? And do you have any favourites I should add for the rest of my month?

A gothic religious horror to ADD to your TBR IMMEDIATELY

Salome by @hannadelaneyauthor is spooky, with a mystery that of what is following her or trying to pull her into darkness.

I devoured this within 24 hours of reading it and now I’m ready to jump straight back into the world of Muldoon which this serves as a prequel for!

Nuns, demons, vampires, religious horror some of my favourite things in a book leading up to Halloween

Salome • the new novel by @hannadelaneyauthor is now available for preorder.
---1885. Salome is spared the gallows after confessing to murder, and is brought from Turin to Liverpool to join a clandestine order. Salome has a gift. Her guides hope she will use it for good, but it is not up to them. God has made her suffer. Demons promise comfort. The road ahead remains unpaved, but all signs point to temptation.

✨Gothic Egyptomania describes the morbid 19th- and early 20th-century Western obsession with ancient Egyptian mummies, curses, and the occult.

✨Surgeon Thomas Pettigrew hosted public spectacles where he unrolled mummies for cheering crowds; London’s Highgate Cemetery built its famous Egyptian Avenue in 1839 and Groups like the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn repurposed Egyptian gods and protective amulets for ritual magic🔮

✨Egyptian Gothic Horror literature also spread like wildfire! Think: tombs and archaeological excavations, mummy curses, stolen antiquities, reincarnated queens, occult Egyptology, museum collections, imperial obsession and the sense that the ancient dead are very much not pleased about being disturbed 👻

If, like me, you’ve been obsessed with Ancient Egypt since you were little— these recs are especially for you 🥰
