Last week was Scott's re-birthday. He received a huge gift from his brother, in a small plastic bag: new stem cells and - not to be dramatic or anything - a second chance at life.

I don't share much of my personal life in the form of lengthy captions here anymore, but I have an ask at the end of this that warrants the preamble. Thanks in advance for reading on :)

In March this year, Scott was diagnosed with Myeloid Dysplasia/ Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a blood cancer that inhibits your body's ability to produce blood. It's pretty scary, pretty rare at his age (like 0.0004% kind of rare), and if you ask me, his mum or his doctors, a pretty big deal.

Since then, he's spent over 100 days in hospital, had appendicitis twice (don't ask me how), had sepsis four times, and received three rounds of intensive chemo in preparation for this stem cell transplant, along with 50+ blood transfusions - if you are a blood donor, THANK YOU 🩸

The stem cell transplant involves at least a month's stay as an inpatient at the specialist unit in Glasgow. He can't leave his room and is only allowed three named visitors during that time and I have the privilege of being one of those lucky three.

This man is a powerhouse and having watched him recover from many an ordeal over the last few months, I have every faith in his capacity to come through this phase of treatment too.

I have one small, but also big, ask for anyone who feels moved to do something:

‼️If you are healthy and able, please consider becoming a stem cell donor. Scott is lucky to have a sibling who is a genetic match (not a guarantee - siblings carry a 25% chance of being a genetic match), but most people who need a transplant rely on the donor register.

There are different organisations across the world that contribute to the register, and they all share information to improve the chances of matching donors to recipients, so you can register wherever you are.

So pleased to introduce @hannahinflow who has recently joined the Shala teaching team. Hannah will be leading two new classes in the studio every week:

Hannah has been teaching yoga for several years, and hopes to help you explore movement through a more functional lens. Affording students the freedom to explore, modify and adapt practice.
