A year ago, Badee Dwaik and I met on instagram. I fell in love with his poetry and he suggested I put it to song. Later, Mark, Reilly and I (highly sensitive gays) sat down together, meditated, and found this piece - the first song we wrote together. Filmmaker Dan Cooper has been an inspiration and supporter the whole way. Producer and artist Lauren O'Connell crafted the recording. Hector (Cello Azul) added the sweeping emotion of his strings. The record was completed with Joe Bozzi's incomparable mastering skills. Now, Freedom (Morning Flowers) is yours.

In this society, in this system, in this collective state of being, we all yearn for freedom.

Some of us yearn for the most basic & physical freedoms.

Some of us yearn for the freedom to love people we are told not to love.

Some of us have been so stunted in our capacity to love that we don't recognize this yearning for what it is. We are trapped in a prison of the illusion of separation.

Our stories are not the same. Our conditions are not the same. But I believe that our deep longing is the same - the freedom to exist as we truly are, the freedom to love. And I believe that while the conditions for this experience are withheld from us, we all suffer.

A flower is a small thing, it blooms, and then dies. And yet when we can really look at it, we can touch the beauty of our existence, the beauty despite the pain.

May this song be a flower on your journey. May it be a flower planted within the garden of liberation that exists inside you, whatever state that garden is presently in. May it remind you of your deepest beauty.

Thank you, Badee, for crafting these words from your beautiful soul. Thank you for planting a flower inside of my heart, and many seeds for many flowers which will continue to bloom. Thank you for giving me the indescribable gift of singing your poem as it plants itself within my spirit. You have created within me a gift which I did nothing to earn and yet continuously receive.

I pray this song is planted like a seed within many hearts, a seed of the love and hope of revolution, the love and pain and hope of Pal3stine.

wrote this song to life. I feel like it can apply to any relationship, and perhaps most of all, our relationship with being here now. life is short, and so sacred. we're here for such a short time. let's really be here with each other. I love you.

I know the fear of intimacy ~ of being seen in my humanity, in my grief and longing and love ~ deeply in my soul and every part of my body. And, there's nothing i long for more than feeling close to this life and to the ones i love.

That's why im devoted to finding ways for us to see each other and return to each other. I will keep building this practice everyday and i am so, so grateful for all of you who are practicing with me. by @hannahrooth

becoming someone who writes songs that the parts of myself i'm learning to love find so fcking cringe

been getting in touch lately with how much fear i carry everyday. it's not new, but learning how to be held in my grief more is helping me see it and meet it with more clarity.

i think that's cuz there's so much grief beneath, where that fear comes from. and it's finding more safety to be held.
