It’s my freelance birthday sometime around now, meaning I’ve been solo for 9 years – what the helly! I’ve donned many hats in that time, so thought it’d be a good opportunity to remind y’all with a swipe through of what I can do in case you’ve got a fun brief coming up that needs a designer-illustrator! So chuffed to share the branding refresh I’ve been working on with the *iconic* @thepalmsbakery this summer!! I was so jazzed when Rachel reached out about a refresh for the bakery and some print bits for the coffee shop – total dream project from start to finish 🍰 If ya don’t know, Palms’ cakes are the definition of FUN and an absolute staple of the Manchester hospitality scene. We built from their existing coffee shop identity so that everything feels cohesive and under one brand roof, bringing in a new sprinkle-inspired colour palette, secondary type that has a friendly, hand-finished feel (inspired by traditional market signage on the initial moodboards) and lots of chunky, retro-feeling brand illustrations that work across print and digital. A peek into my illustration process for @neighborhoodbottleshoppe’s new Bottle Club member tote bags 🌞 Starting with a hand-drawn sketch in @procreate as always, then vector tracing in @adobe Fresco… I’d never actually used Fresco before this project and actually really enjoy it for a quick(er) and easy way to vectorise something on iPad and send directly to Illustrator! Not a plug or owt, just genuinely quite impressed and it’s something I’ve added into my workflow now :-) 10 points if you spot my daft spelling mistake, cos I didn't 🙃 #vectorillustration #procreateart #merchandisedesign #craftbeerbranding by @hanvalentine_

Wobbly hand drawn letters for @endlesslovecreative x @natalierosewilde new Studio Visits series 🌸 Char & Nat are stepping inside the working spaces of makers & artists that feature at the ELC markets, documenting the people, places and processes behind what they make. They needed a wee stamp to go on socials posts for the series, and that’s where I and @procreate came in :-) Taking inspo from gorgeous @ffern.co type treatments, delicate logo marks and the colour palettes in the upcoming @endlesslovecreative Winter markets posters. Hadn’t every really got my head around illustrating a repeat pattern before this, but @donzokobeer asks and Donzoko shall receive 🍇 Swipey swipe for full label, a little bit of iPad sketch to final vector process and a look at some nice spot UV on the print finish. I am soooo not used to sharing process videos (tbh mostly because I forget to record!!) but here’s a little WIP retrospective of new @endlesslovecreative for the first Summer Festival back in June this year 🦢💛🫐🩰🕯️🌸 We went in a new-for-ELC direction for this standalone event, bringing in a different font, coloured background and new creative for banners and socials bits and bobs, little did we know it’d go on to influence the winter season’s visuals too but more of that latersssss Maybe more process stuff to come?! taken in Manchester, United Kingdom by @hanvalentine_
