📍 FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia)

Over the weekend my friends and I booked a private tour with a Nature Guide at FRIM 🌳 It was such a fun, fulfilling trip!

DID YOU KNOW… FRIM started out as a barren land (for tin ore mining) and was established in 1929, almost 100 years ago, to be a research center for rehabilitating forests? Since then, they have grown 1,000 species in 545 hectares of land. It was truly a 🤯 moment, looking out at all the lush trees, flora and fauna around me, thinking that none of it existed 100 years ago. WOW!

Booking a guide was an amazing experience. Thomas (our guide) was so knowledgeable, he could talk for hours!! He was part of the team that worked on more sustainable ways for ethical logging. Hearing his stories and experiences while soaking up the forest vibes with friends was simply magical.

We were so lucky to have been part of this collaboration with @beatnation - Malaysia’s leading beatbox community that aims to provide transformative opportunities for beatbox enthusiasts.

🎩 HAT CATS SOLO JAZZ PERFORMANCE 🎩

My first solo jazz performance! Such a joy getting to learn & perform one of Max’s original choreos to a song that’s notoriously unintuitive for solo jazz. Thank you to my fellow performers - Hao, Martha & Nikola - for this unforgettable experience.

You made World Lindy Hop Day in KL all the more special 🥹🥹🥹

The year weft betwixt unto memories,
Within the emotions, encapsulating,
Joy, despair, sanguine thereafter.

This year started with a blast! I barely had anytime to slow down since starting a new hobby in dancing (thanks for initiating @brandontks, still awaiting your return), to being committed to my badminton group, shoutout to @tuesdaybadmintoncommunity, the biggest badminton group I’ve ever been a part of (thanks @jianggiiee for inviting and @valerieysw for literally organizing everything), to hosting connect groups after multiplication (thank you @Valerie and @joann________x for being such amazing leaders), to working part time as a tutor (thanks @pishonloh for the opportunity). I have met so many amazing people in the Lindy Hop community (thanks everyone in @klswings) and I am floored by the welcoming atmosphere that is in that scene and the people I started this with (@tyj_waterbaby, @gwenific, @sarahnso, @megalodonmax) and all the amazing dancers that inspire me (too many). All this while starting a new job with all its additional workload and fast pace left me breathless and sleep deprived for most of the year.
I fondly remember my Vietnam trip which was an amazing experience (thanks for making it happen @jianggiiee, @laurenlaii, @brandontks). While we were worried as we went there right after Typhoon Yagi hit, we were blessed in that we were able to shift our dates around and matched all our planned destinations.

As 2024 winded down, things took a downward spiral. Tearing an ankle ligament prevented me from most physical activities, though I did go for a house building (thanks @crochetma and @ashley_w.s for the opportunity as well as floor gang for being considerate! @megalodonmax, @zhainatyun, @berlinadoyou, Julie, @crochetma and our expert @tankmnn) and a dance performance (shoutout to Sejuk Shots) 😅.

Unexpectedly losing both my aunt (midyear) and a good friend (@vicharn) on Christmas Eve (may they rest in God’s embrace) were times of despair, stark reminders of mortal fragility. While the pain is fresh and gut wrenching, looking back, 2024 has been such a rollercoaster where I'll continue riding and see where it goes in 2025. God bless 🙏. by @hao.chua

SELANGOR SEJUK SHOTS 🥶🧊💋❄️

Our Medium level performance for Lennart weekend! Was the privilege of a lifetime performing for a living legend. I was so touched when he came up to us after to thank us for dedicating this to him 🥺❣️

The premise of this choreography was a Connections class, which Max coached us through over 6 weeks. Connection is a fundamental part of Lindy Hop; we learned about stretch, pulse, grounding, connection to the floor, music, and each other. I learned so much and felt so grateful for the experience 🌸

To my teammates @tyj_waterbaby @milenanguyen @hao.chua @sarahnso and especially @giiingerrr2021 who was learning to lead *FOR THE FIRST TIME*, we slayed it 💋 thank you for dancing with me!!!!!

Thanks @megalodonmax for showing up and training us each week 🥹 thank you @fattycoke for the original choreo and @fromwaiwithlove for the INCREDIBLE COLORFUL AUTHENTIC costumes, I think they really made the whole thing pop! 💜💛

And of course @klswings for the opportunity and @parcmalaysia for the lovely venue — my second time performing at PARC in a year 😂💃

Thank you most of all to @yukie_lue and Lennart Westerlund for the incredible weekend full of learning, laughter and reflection 🥰

3 performances in my first year of Lindy Hop. So grateful for the growth 🌱 what’s next?!
