SAVE THIS POST for a simple Mount Rushmore Itinerary with a good amount of fun for families. ❤️

But first: Snapshots from the Black Hills 🌄

Was 30 hours in the car worth it for these views and memories?! Absolutely. 🥰

Mount Rushmore has been on my list for a long time. I’ve never seen it! Grateful to make it happen with my kids and husband. I’ll never take for granted the beauty of this earth. Incredible humans a who create, protect, and provide. ❤️

A few have asked for our itinerary, and I’m all for helping families make memories together.

Day 1
Drive to the Black Hills.
We stayed in Hill City and found it to be a perfect central location with beautiful views, friendly people, and convenient amenities.

Day 2
Mount Rushmore! Explore the grounds, enjoy the exhibits and movie, see the Avenue of Flags, and walk the Presidential Trail. Lunch here was really good!

Cosmos Mystery Area - the weirdest gravity hotspot… my kids LOVED this.

Back to Mount Rushmore in the evening to see it lit up at night.

Day 3
Drive to Devil’s Tower - this is an incredible natural wonder. It’s a long drive, so be aware.

Drive back to Hill City through Sundance, Wyoming to see the Sundance Kid statue. Continue through Spearfish Canyon and down through Deadwood. Moriah Cemetery is worth a stop - Wild Bill & Calamity Jane graves.

Day 4
Crazy Horse Memorial - so cool to see and learn. We enjoyed the museum and video as well.

Drive into Custer State Park. Walk around Sylvan Lake and drive the famous Needles Highway with tunnels - truly incredible! Be sure to look for views of Mount Rushmore. You can drive for as long or little as you like.

Drive past Mount Rushmore one more time!

Day 5
Drive home

We also had lots of family time playing cards, eating in, walking through cute little towns, and spending time together.

My work here is done. 🫡 No rehearsal, first take… an idea where I said, “Just go with it,” and she knew exactly what to do.

She loves being weird with me. I LOVE MY DAUGHTER!!

And seeing Mount Rushmore for the first time with my family - ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS!

Marriage is wild. 😂

One minute I’m saying, “We really need to be better about saving money.”

The next minute I’m sending him a link that starts with, “Okay... hear me out...” ✈️💸

Somehow it’s not “spending money” if it creates memories. And honestly... I am usually right.

Our savings account may be confused, but our camera roll is thriving. 😂❤️

Today was a special day for our family and one we have waited a very long time for! It was FINALLY our turn to see @cursedchildus at @broadwayattheeccles!

The show was unlike anything I could have ever imagined. The magical elements, the special effects, the way everything came to life… truly incredible and completely mind-blowing. ✨

If I’m being honest, the story wasn’t my favorite continuation of the Wizarding World, but the magic? The magic made it all worth it!

Our love for this world runs so deep, and I’m endlessly grateful for the way these stories have allowed me to create and experience a little magic of my own as a mom.

From hosting Harry Potter-themed parties in our home, to waiting in line at the parks so each of my children could experience a wand experience of their very own, to setting up my memorable Honeydukes table every Halloween, to attending costume parties and dressing up as so many different characters with so many friends… some of my most treasured memories with my family are wrapped up in this magic.

These stories have given us so much more than something to watch or read. They’ve given us traditions, memories, moments of wonder, and a little extra magic woven into our everyday lives.

And as a mom, getting to watch my children experience that same wonder is a kind of magic all on its own. ✨

CHRISTMAS in OCTOBER?!?!! 🎄What a gift!

I truly cannot make this stuff up.

A man who has never met me decided he knew the state of my marriage based on an Instagram reel… so naturally, I got curious and did a little digging.

And somehow we ended up in the world of bonsai trees, Facebook groups, and PAGES of people with some very strong opinions about their experiences with him.

Honestly, I was just trying to understand how we got here.

The absolute highlight of my 40th birthday party was recreating a special moment from my childhood with my mom and sister. 🥰

My dad passed away when I was 6, and my mom was a very busy single mom trying to raise 3 kids on her own. She didn’t have a lot of free time. But when she did, one thing we loved to do together was karaoke.

She bought the most fancy machine with Lazer Discs, and we would set up the microphones and have the best time together. My sister would join us whenever she was home and could.

We had signature song that we sang together since the very beginning… it’s from the First Wives Club, an ICONIC movie.

A few months ago while going through old photos and videos, I found a video of us singing the song together. And I thought… we have to recreate this!

We practiced and wore our white jackets (like they do in the movie). And truly, this was the highlight of the night for me. ❤️

Grateful for these memories!

Entering midlife has me leaning more into these simple, yet compelling life lessons. ❤️

Appreciate the people who show up. Show up for them too. Say the nice thing out loud. Make plans. Spend time where you feel loved, and make sure those people know how much you love them back.

Stop asking for opinions from every person you know. Trust your own instincts. And spend time with people who build you up!

It’s easy to give our favorite people whatever time and energy we have left. But they are the people who deserve the best of us.

Pick one reminder from this carousel and put it into practice this week.

And you young ones… learn this earlier than I did please! Trust me… you’ll save yourself a lot of heartache. ❤️
