Body dysmorphia is a real thing, and sometimes it sneaks into your thoughts in ways you don’t even realize until afterward.

I was invited to the cutest birthday party where we were supposed to dress up as a diva legend. Naturally, I picked Cher. 💃🏼 Partly because… icon, obviously, and partly because I figured if we ended up having to sing, I could probably pull off those alto vibes. 😂

I had a dress sitting in our costume bucket that I thought would be perfect, but when I tried it on… it didn’t fit.

And honestly, that moment hit me harder than I expected.

Since my accidents, I haven’t been able to truly work out the way I used to, and I’ve gained weight. It’s something I’ve become very self-conscious about, even though I know my body has been through a lot and deserves grace.

I remember placing the order for my 70s bodysuit and intentionally ordering a large. Before the accident, I had worked my way down to a medium, but now I thought, “I’ll order a size up so I don’t feel self-conscious.”

The outfit came. It fit perfectly. I wore it with confidence, secretly grateful I had bought a size up so it wouldn’t make me look like a busted can of biscuits. 😂

Imagine my surprise when I got home, took it off, and discovered it was actually a medium.

A MEDIUM. 🤯

Sometimes we get so deep in our own heads that we don’t see the truth sitting right in front of us.

My body is different right now. That doesn’t mean it’s bad. It doesn’t mean I’ve failed. And it definitely doesn’t erase all the things this body has carried me through.

Maybe confidence isn’t always loving every inch of yourself. Maybe sometimes it’s putting on the outfit anyway, walking into the room, and realizing later that the story you were telling yourself about your body wasn’t even true.

And maybe we all need to give ourselves a little more grace between what we think we see in the mirror and what is actually there. 💙

Took a trip to space 👽✨and back last night thanks to @jordanpage @thepagecosoiree and the magical venue @dreamwalkpark 🛸✨

I LOVE a good reason to dress up but what I love even more is seeing so many of my friends, fellow creators and business owners and just letting loose and reconnecting! Especially after what seems to be such a busy and crazy year for everyone!

But the real purpose of this event is to meet new brands and small businesses and hopefully create new relationships as well!! And as I’m jump starting my creator journey from SBO this year, I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to attend last night! And I can’t wait to share more about what who and what I found!

It’s easy to look around a room like this and see beautiful clothes, big smiles, laughter, dancing and people having the best night.

And they were.

The joy wasn’t fake. The laughter wasn’t fake. The friendships weren’t fake.

But neither are the hard things people carried into the room with them.

Because humans are funny like that.

We can be deeply grateful and still grieving something.

We can laugh until our stomach hurts while life feels heavy.

We can dance with our friends while having no idea what we’re going to do next.

We can be having a genuinely beautiful night in the middle of a really hard season.

I think sometimes social media makes us forget how many things can be true about a person at once.

So maybe the reminder isn’t that what we see online isn’t real.

Maybe it’s simply that it’s never all of what’s real.

The joy is real.
