HEAD vs HEART ❤️‍🔥🌺

Kona race day is almost here! And we’ve each got our picks… although whether they’re based on logic, loyalty or just the athletes we really love another question 😂💜

Our head vs heart picks:

Mardi
🧠 Head: Sam Laidlow + Taylor Knibb
❤️ Heart: Kristian Blummenfelt + Kat Matthews

Jaclyn
🧠 Head: Gustav Iden + Laura Philipp
❤️ Heart: Sam Laidlow + Paula Findlay

The men’s and women’s races are back together on the Big Island, and we cannot WAIT to see how it all unfolds. Race kicks off in the early hours of Sunday morning here in Australia!

Who are your head picks and, more importantly, your heart picks? Drop them below 👇

A little more about @coachkov 👉

We are so lucky to have Christian on our coaching team, with a real strength in coaching longer distance athletes he has taken three Happy Pace athletes to their first Ironman in the last two years!

As someone who works full time, and is a new Dad himself, Christian 100% understands the demand of balancing training, work, family and life - and he has taken many athletes to their first or best Ironman, achieving (and exceeding!) their goals with this in mind ❤️‍🔥

If you’ve signed up for a 2027 race, or want to talk about whether you’re capable of it - make sure to get in touch. We do what we do because we love it, and we would love to help you 💜💪 taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @happypace.tri

It’s KONA WEEK 🌺🌴❤️‍🔥 aka the Ironman World Championships in the original home of Ironman in Hawaii!!!

Sometimes you gotta look back to look forward, and last year’s women’s race was one of the most dramatic you’ll ever see! No doubt this will make the likes of Lucy Charles Barclay and Taylor Knibb hungry for the win this year, but you can’t overlook Solveig or Kat on a good day 👀

Who’s your picks? Our Kona preview episode is now live on Apple and Spotify for your training and commuting listen this week 💜 by @happypace.tri

🇫🇷Nice, Race day Recap🏝️

WOW, what a stunning course ✨ This race has to be the highlight of my triathlon journey to date.

🏊‍♀️ The Swim
Firstly, one of the best swims I’ve ever had. Not in terms of time or distance, but just the whole experience. The water was the clearest blue and you could see as far as your eyes would let you, fish, jellyfish, even a swim cap that had come off 😂 I saw it all! And no panicking from me 🙌 The water was so warm it was actually a delight to swim in.

🚴‍♀️ The Bike
It’s not often in a race that you look up and completely forget you’re racing alongside 3,000 other women, but this course was one of those ones. The views were absolutely stunning.

I loved the climb. I’d prepped so well at home and with the week of riding in Mallorca, I felt ready for it and that descent was SO MUCH FUN!

At one point I got so lost in the views that I genuinely forgot I was racing. Then when I remembered, I was just overcome with this huge sense of gratitude. I remember thinking, “How is this my life? How did I get here? How lucky am I to be living my dream?” 🥹

Coming back into town things started to get a little uncomfy and I was definitely looking forward to getting off the bike and out onto the run.

🏃‍♀️ The Run
Well… what a vibe! Firstly, the views from transition were stunning, then running out to a packed crowd, past the #ILoveNice sign and along the promenade was just incredible.

My legs felt SO good and I genuinely loved the run until about the 16km mark, when they started to slow me down a little. It was hot and it was starting to hurt, but I stayed in such a good headspace and just kept going. How could I not? I was in the middle of the best race of my life.

Crossing that finish line, I was relieved, grateful and completely full of emotion.

Did I just do that?! 🥹

I’m so proud of how I executed this race, from all the training and preparation, to my nutrition, the swim, the bike and right through to the run. It all came together on the day.

This course and this whole race week will forever hold such a special place in my heart. I honestly don’t know how I’ll top this one.

Living the dream ✨🫶🌻 by @happypace.tri

One of the best things about 70.3 World Championships is having the Men’s and Women’s races on different days - so @mardic7 got to get out and watch the pro men race on the Sunday in Nice with Hayden Wilde taking out an epic race ahead of Lasse Nygaard Priester, Kristian Blummenfelt and Jelle Geens 🏆

We give our debrief of both the pro men’s and women’s race on Episode 21 of the pod. Available on Apple and Spotify now 💜 by @happypace.tri

2027 👀 Entries for @ironmanoceania races open tomorrow, and with triathlon continuing to grow some races are expected to fill pretty quickly!

So if you’ve been quietly thinking about making next year a big one, this might be the week to make it official ✨

And if the thought of entering is followed by ‘how the hell can I do this?’ then we’ve also got you!

We have 1:1 coaching with @mardic7 @coachkov and @katie.swimbikerun - fully personalised, built around you, your life and your goals, and we will do a little special to save you some $$ over the coming week if you are locking it in now (and because race entries cost enough already!!)

Feel free to send us a DM to ask any questions about your events, or to have a chat 💜 by @happypace.tri

NICE ONE 🌎🇫🇷💜✨

70.3 World Championships 2026 - a 1.9km swim in the Med, 90km with 1200m of climbing on the bike (and a very enjoyable descent 🙌) then 21.1km along the Promonade des Anglais 🇫🇷

Quite possibly the most incredible course I’ll ever race, and one of the most special weekends in triathlon to be a part of.

I have the biggest smile on my face in these photos because I’m so grateful for all of the people, and moments who got me here - my friends, my family, my coach, the entire @happypace.tri crew (and especially the athletes I have the privilege to coach) plus training buddies old and new in Melbourne and Brissy 🫶

Highly recommend to do hard things

What a week 🤩 there's something totally surreal about meeting up with Aussie pals on the other side of the world for a race, let alone it being the 70.3 World Champs! 🇫🇷 it's been a once in a lifetime experience to share the memories of swimming in the Mediterranean, cycling through the Alps and running along the Promenade des Anglais 🥐 I absolutely got my value for money with this race (IYKYK) and it barely even felt like one 😅

Thanks to Amy for encouraging me to attend the Cairns rolldown ceremony, Em & Kieren for sharing their accommodation, Britt for the on-course high 5s, and last but not least Mardi for creating the incredible @happypace.tri community and bringing us all together 💜💛 well and truly found my Happy Pace! by @happypace.tri
