Meet Molly! #Adoptable in NY!

Molly was a starving stray dog who wandered around a temple in Taiwan. A rescuer saw how sweet tempered Molly was so she went back the next day to rescue her. Molly was so excited to see the rescuer as if she understood what was happening and jumped in joy!
.
Molly is an affectionate and sweet dog. She's low-medium energy, and enjoys long walks to the park. She gets along with other foster dogs and cats, and would play at the dog park with other dogs but she's not a fan of high-energy dogs who comes off too strong. She is calm and polite around strangers outdoors. Molly is currently working with a trainer on welcoming strangers in her home and she is making great progress! Molly needs a gentle and patient owner who will be her guardian angel. Once she opens up her heart to you, she will love you unconditionally and asks for endless belly rubs!

🏡 Jelly, adopted May 2023

Surprise! Jelly was quietly adopted back in May to a family in……… 🥁…. ALASKA! He gets to have Anchorage as his backyard and two other dogs he gets to call his pack (including a full bred KBD!). Thank you for everyone’s hard work and supportive messages for him all those months - and especially to his foster family @milo_fmd for the work they put in with his training ♥️.

“He blending into the pack. His skiddishness has subsided and he seems to like my wife a little better than me. Emmi, my female is his fave and when we are out in the woods he wants to be where she is. He is taking to the forest and loves to sniff and he even learned to eat snow for a drink when water is scarce. I thank you both for making the air port transport so smooth and of course letting me bring him to spitz dog paradise.

Everyone is great! I had my doubts at times, he was a little aloof but he's thriving. Loves all his pack mates. I think he's loving being able to bond and feeling settled. He had a ravenous appetite but has slowed down now that he's put a little weight on. He's going to need it in a few months. He got a little turned around a few times in the woods but has figured it out now watching and learning. He seems to like women's energy more than men but neither are an issue. He's got a funny howl that has come out as well. Thanks for checking. He's living his best life!”

“ As soon as I saw Katara (previously Hana) I knew she was the dog for me. She came at such a time where I was not in a great place and she truly became part of the family. Besides eating my mail sometimes she loves squeaky toys and rolling around in the grass. She loves hanging out with her brother Smeagol and cuddling all night ❤️“

🏡 Frankie (FKA Butter), adopted Sept 2021

“ We couldn't resist Frankie's adorable face as he crawled out of his crate. One of his favorite pastimes is trying to snag a piece of our popcorn chicken, which we suspect reminds him of his homeland in Taiwan. Frankie is also a fan of small toys that fit perfectly in his mouth, and he loves nothing more than curling up with us for a good cuddle session. Despite his small size, Frankie has a huge personality and loves to travel, especially to Portland or New Orleans, as indicated by his joy running to his travel crate. As an emotional support animal, Frankie is always there to brighten our day and provide unconditional love and companionship.

We're grateful to Hara for preparing us for Frankie's arrival and always being available to answer our questions. Frankie has become an important part of our lives, bringing us joy and unconditional love every day. We couldn't be happier to have him as a part of our family.“

⚠️Not good with cats or small critters

Smocky originally came to HARA from Taiwan in 2021 where he was rescued as a stray dog by a good Samaritan. He was adopted here in the U.S. where he blossomed into the sweetest boy despite his nervousness. Like most FMDs, he can be nervous in new situations and with new people. Once he's had the chance to open up, he is very friendly and affectionate. He loves his walks, squeaky toys, and curling up for a good sunny nap. He is very treat motivated and loves to train! Smocky has gone through professional training to help manage his anxiety and will do best with an adopter who can upkeep a routine for him.

Due to his resource guarding tendencies, his ideal home is one without small children or small animals. He'd love an experienced dog owner who understands anxious dog behavior to help him acclimate!

Smocky is currently located in Alameda, CA, and is available to meet. We are open to foster-to-adopt trials for the right person! Our current focus is finding him a safe home for him to decompress - feel free to DM for further information or if you are able to help in any other capacity.

Bobo was brought home by his original family at 6 weeks old in Taiwan. Two years later, the newborn in the family was severely allergic to dogs and the family could no longer keep Bobo. Bobo has been in a foster home for10-months now working on potty training and basic obedience.
.
Bobo is clearly very handsome and super fluffy! He's also very friendly with people in nature. He's good with other dogs at home but he plays rough, that's also why we don't recommend him for a household with small dogs or cats. He's very affectionate with his foster family and loves getting attention from strangers at the park. Bobo was not potty trained at first and required 4 walks a day but now he is potty trained and goes out 2-3 times a day. He asks his new family to continue and strengthen his obedience, leash, and potty training to ensure he thrives in a new environment. Bobo will pull on leash and lunge when he is excited to see people on walks (more excited than seeing dogs), this also needs continued training. Bobo’s hind legs are weaker compared to his front legs and seemingly straighter in structure - the vet said it doesn’t effect his motion and nothing alarming but recommends supplements to maintain joint health. Bobo is now shaved because it's getting hot and humid in Taiwan🥸.

This good boy, Chai Chai, grew up in a parking lot at only 2-months young with his two siblings. The parking lot superintendent was able to feed and take care of the siblings but not long term and called our rescue for help.

Chai Chai is friendly with people including kids, and gets along well with other dogs. He is good with cats and lives with one in his current foster home. He's starting to learn basic commands like sit, shake, and go inside (his crate). Chai Chai is pretty easy going and would be a great addition to any family, ideally outdoor enthusiasts.

Naruwan means 'hello, welcome' in aboriginal Taiwanese. She was given this name because of how accepting she was. Naruwan was rescued as a stray when the volunteers saw her wandering the streets in heavy rain and looked very frail. She was only 18lb upon rescue and now she is 28lb after some TLC💕.
.
Naruwan is good with other dogs and even plays with dogs way bigger than her. She can be a little shy with strangers at first but she is very affectionate once she gets to know you and willing to say hi to strangers if they have treats. She is cat neutral and lives with two cats in the foster home. She's very chill at home but could also be a great adventurous hiking buddy. Naruwan would also be a great second furry family member. And yes, she’s very well loved by her foster dad (see the last pic 🥹)

On this Mother’s Day weekend (because dog moms are important, too!), we’re highlighting a very special member of our HARA family! When we tell ya she has put in the work with Meli - she has 👏🏻 PUT 👏🏻 IN 👏🏻 THE 👏🏻WORK!

“We adopted Meli in the summer of 2020 straight from her fosters in Jeju, South Korea. I like to call it a “blind adoption” because we didn’t meet Meli before adopting her, and relied fully on our phone/video interviews with HARA regarding information. The team was super helpful in answering my questions before we were approved adopters, and continued answering my many, MANY questions once Meli was home with us 😅

Almost three years later, that fearful and anxious village dog is still… super shy 😅 But with training and patience, we have formed a special bond with Meli. She’s opened up to us (…only us…) in ways we never expected. She’s super goofy, playful, smart, and has such a funny personality. Who would’ve known?!

We are so thankful to the team at HARA for their endless support and for choosing us to be Meli’s forever family ❤️.”

“When I first brought Tobin home back in July 2021, I thought what have I gotten myself into! He was definitely anxious the first few weeks, unsure of where he was and who I was. With the support of friends and family, Tobin has become such a joy - he is silly and mischievous and makes me, and everyone around me, laugh all the time! He has resting concerned face as I like to say and will eat a trashcan if I let him, but I wouldn’t change anything about him!”

🏡 Freya (Muwa), adopted September 2022 ♥️

“Freya, formerly Muwa, came to us at a time when we needed her the most. We had unexpectedly just lost our previous rescue, Kai, to Hemangiosarcoma. To those who are unfamiliar, it’s an aggressive cancer that actually shows no signs and symptoms until the tumor ruptures and by the time it does, it’s too late. Unbeknownst to us, the following day we lost Kai, Freya had just arrived here in the states in hopes of finding a family. Maybe things were supposed to happen this way? We planned a meet and greet, and ultimately decided to bring her home. She has only been with us for 6 months, but she took no time at all to adjust to her new home. She has fit perfectly into our family like a missing puzzle piece. She enjoys time with her 2 human sisters, romps in the backyard, playing fetch with her tennis balls and weekly hikes at our local state park. We are very grateful to Hara for choosing us to be her adoptive family. We truly believe she was heaven sent.”
