Τελευταία Κυριακή του Σεπτεμβρίου.

Τις μέρες τις γλυκές του Σεπτεμβρίου,
όταν δεν έχει ακόμη βρέξει
και είναι το άκουσμα των ήχων πιο αραιό
και η γεύσις των ωρών και από του θέρους πιο πυκνή,

όταν στους κήπους σκάνε τα ρόδια,
και πάλλονται υψιτενείς οι στήμονες των λουλουδιών,
και σφύζουν στις πορφύρες των φλεγόμενοι οι ιβίσκοι,
όλοι σαν υπερβέβαιοι γαμβροί
που στων νυμφών κτυπούν τις θύρες,

τότε, σαν να ’ναι πάντα καλοκαίρι
(γιατί όποια κι αν είναι η εποχή, ο πόθος είναι πάντα θέρος)
αναγαλλιάζουν οι ψυχές,

και ο Έρωτας, ο πιο ξανθός
αρχάγγελος του Παραδείσου, βοά και λέγει
στο κάθε που άγγιξε κορμί:

Τα ρούχα πέτα, γδύσου.

Τίποτε μη φοβάσαι.

Έαρ, χειμώνας, θέρος — όπου κι αν είσαι —
είναι η ρομφαία μου μαζί σου.
