Alot of new faces, a little about my self. My name is Jude Howell, I am a Chicago street photographer and I take great pride in the city and the sub-genre in itself. I don’t believe in luck, I was raised to believe in hard work and that if I failed at something it was because I didn’t try hard enough. When I’m out photographing I try to push myself extremely hard: when I finish my route in the city I’ll do it again backwards, when I want to go home I’ll stay out an extra hour, when the weather is bad I’ll find comfort in it, because I know at the most uncomfortable it becomes a battle of will; man and camera vs the world. I’m the kind of person who receives a compliment and has trouble accepting it, admitting that I could have done it better: faster focus, better f stop to nail the depth of field, a better edit, or proper framing. I don’t really like most of my images by any margin of measure, I simply love the process and enjoy pushing myself to the limit, it’s the only time I feel truly alive these days. Chicago is an amazing city and she has some amazing photographers and I’m glad to call some of them my friends. This set is from yesterday at a humbling -17° F out at the lake front, the steam rising off Lake Michigan like a smoldering caldera, caressing the city I love so dearly.Don’t sleep on the Chi; we out here.@chicago @visit.chicago @wgnnews @npr #chicago by @harebear

We had a blitz snowfall last night, I was posted up at HQ aka @solemnoathbeer luckily I had my GR3x in my pocket and ran outside to capture what I could. Snowfall is one of my favorite things about living in the midwest/north; as a desert kid I didn’t get to see it too often so its amazing to see it when it does snow here. Also TGIF!! by @harebear

A few more dives into a world from yesterday. Golden and orange lights clashing with the wet streets of the Chi. These pieces really take me back, a unique time when it was about the art. Before the hype and clout it was truly about the love of the game getting out and being guided by your passion. So many many years ago. by @harebear

I really miss my 5dmk3, thing was a hands down beast. It reminds me of some ol seasoned operator. I had never owned something so robust and life proof. Thing was my partner in crime for many many years, I still use it sporadically but It’s retired from the street now, kept safe on my shelf like a monument to old times. by @harebear

A few more deep cuts from many moons ago. Nothing quite beats rain in the city, hope you all are doing alright and had a solid holiday weekend. It’s wild to get older and look back at life with so much clarity and vision, seeing how certain events led to situations or how life reveals things that seemed so well hidden. by @harebear

Here’s a few oldies from many many moons ago, those old rainy says in the Chi were something else; the wet ground reflecting the orange glow of the city was 👌🏾 . I remember getting off work and rushing home and running to the train to capture the pulse of the street. Good times and even better memories. Hope you all are doing alright! by @harebear

New York is a dance of calamity; so many movements, so many sounds, and so many people. I think the one thing mussing from NYC is silence, but in that regard that’s what makes NYC the city that never sleeps. Every time I visit I feel like I have a good grasp of the city only to look back and realize I never even touched the tip of the iceberg. NYC is truly a street photographers dream, it has all the makings of action or life as it happens in its purist form. Also,Peep that cameo of that lovely lady from Boston. by @harebear

I really need to get back to NYC, that city is so interesting; so many characters living their unique versions of themselves. The big 🍎 is a prime of street photography, so many legends have walked those streets and made their mark. So many great artists out there and im glad to call some of them my friends, can’t wait to see you all soon. I hope you all are doing alright, it’s been a busy busy Spring with so many things to do, getting older is a wild time, but we shall prevail 💪🏾🐻 by @harebear

Spring is in true fashion here in the Chi, it was 78° yesterday and now it’s 37° lol. The seasons will always be a real shock to me especially Spring and Fall it’s like one day it’s really nice out then suddenly it’s abhorrently hot or cold and it stays that way for a few months with a few days of feints of perfect weather. Here’s a few snaps from the winter as a quick reminder of how beautiful Summer is. by @harebear
