During my recent trip to Afghanistan in January, I met two incredible young girls at the orphanage we supported in Kabul together with our partner @aseelapp @aseelbuygood

At the end of the day, I invited them to sit down with me for a conversation so I could get to know them a little better.

We talked about many things. But eventually, they stopped asking me questions. Instead, one of the girls shared a wish—a heartfelt request. As you’ll see at the end of this video, her words brought me to tears.

It has now been 1,762 days since the Taliban shut down secondary education for girls following their return to power in August 2021. Nearly five years later, Afghanistan remains in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, and yet the world continues to remain silent. 🤐

Watch the video and you’ll understand why it took me so long to drop it on my socials. It’s emotional. It’s heavy. A whole generation has already died and many more are on the way if we do nothing, say nothing and show no action.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒏𝒅 🏁 End of an Era.

Er is een tijd van komen en een tijd van gaan. Het afgelopen jaar bij Helai was een bizarre rollercoaster, en ik had het voor geen goud anders willen doen. 🤍

Als manager verantwoordelijk zijn voor Helai, een team van 40+ collega’s aansturen én tegelijkertijd met mijn creative marketing agency ‘The Creative Guys’ zorgen voor de volledige online presence en branding, is iets wat ik nooit meer zal vergeten en voor altijd zal koesteren.

Wánt o boy… wat hebben we het naar een next level gebracht. 🤯 In slechts 12 maanden tijd groeiden we naar 8.000+ organische volgers op Instagram en 5.000+ organische volgers op TikTok, met als hoogtepunt meer dan 1,3 miljoen views in de laatste 3 maanden van 2025. Daarnaast realiseerden we een volledige strategische rebranding van het merk Helai voor de komende 10 jaar. ⭐️ Een project waar we als team enorm trots op zijn.

Dit was een MEGA ervaring. 👏🏻
Máár, Helai is nu precies waar het hoort te zijn in het 10e jubileumjaar, klaar voor een nieuwe fase waarin een frisse wind zal waaien.

Een grote dank gaat uit naar Haroen, voor het geloof, het vertrouwen en vooral voor het feit dat hij mij voor de leeuwen heeft gegooid in één van de moeilijkste tijden binnen de horeca.

Dank aan alle collega’s, gasten, leveranciers én vrienden die onderdeel zijn geweest van deze bijzondere reis.

Niemand anders dan @femke.vermaas was te gast bij mij in Helai om onze wereldberoemde Kebab Platter én Rijsttafel uit de Afghaanse keuken te proeven. Én dat ging er heel vermakelijk aan toe.

And that is only possible thanks to the incredible support from all of you all around the globe over the past 3 weeks!

10.000+ IFTAR MEALS DISTRIBUTED! 🤯

📍 Kart-e-Sakhi Mosque, Kabul

More than 10.000+ people (❗️) fed in total with our Ramadan Giving Challenge this year to feed 15.000 people in the whole month.

Yesterday we distributed our 10.000+ Iftar meal with the brothers, sisters, and children gathering around every day at the Kart-e-Sakhi Mosque in Kabul.

Our mission together with @aseelapp is still clear: no one in Afghanistan should break their fast alone or worry about how to break their fast without enough food.

Máár we zijn er nog niet, nog 5.000 te gaan om ons einddoel van 15.000 te behalen! 👋🏻 Gaan we het redden om met ze allen in de laatste dagen van de Ramadan dit doel te behalen?

We maken elke dag 500 (!) Iftar maaltijden en delen dit uit aan de man, vrouw en kind die zijn/haar Iftar niet kan veroorloven. Én jij kan daaraan bijdragen met een kleine donatie van €3 (1 Iftar maaltijd)! 🍽️

What an incredible week, so PROUD! 🤩

Vijf jaar geleden begonnen we met niets anders dan een missie, hoop en de overtuiging dat we samen verschil konden maken in Afghanistan. Wie had toen gedacht dat een merk als CRUYFF ons pad zou kruisen met zo’n hartverwarmende donatie? Zelfs in mijn dromen niet.

Dankzij deze donatie hebben we in de afgelopen week al meer dan 3.000 mensen een warme Iftar-maaltijd kunnen geven tijdens de Ramadan.

Én dit is precies waar Cruijff het over had.
Alleen kun je niks. Met zijn allen kun je alles.

Dankbaar. Trots. Én gemotiveerder dan ooit om door te gaan.
