On a personal note, doing photo research, I noticed a fireman with “chaplain” barely legible in the footage. That was the last photo of NYPD Chaplain Mychal Judge. He was killed by falling debris during the collapse while giving last rites to a firefighter inside the lobby of the North Tower. I had met him a couple of months earlier and, and looked forward to a long relationship. I kept his card in my wallet for years as a talisman

If you watch or listen to the raw Naudet footage, one of the firemen comments on the bodies lying outside from people who had jumped. Putting this together opened up some long sealed emotions.

Almost 2,800 people died that dark day, 25 years ago. Their memories and their families deserve more than ‘truthers’ who don’t know the truth and who haven’t done an ounce of work beyond aping what other people say.

I remember that morning, coming back from Rockaway, where the surf from Hurricane Erin was epic, and watching the towers burn from Red Hook, at the edge of the Buttermilk Channel. My thought at the time was that the buildings would burn, the columns would be left standing, and the buildings could be rebuilt. That image, the columns remaining, is what first led me to want to understand the structural system.

A month or so ago, I saw a very well put together animation of the tower collapse, and the structural system shown was completely wrong. It’s shocking to me that 25 years later, so many people are convinced the towers came down because they were wired with explosives, and yet have no real idea how they were held up in the first place.

While this post is for the memory of everyone killed that day, it’s also for the uninformed.

The next chapter has begun – Impact Red – Proof of Concept

This story is based on my experience in Berlin after I came back from the Central American jungle, where I lived and worked with people from the Ketchi and Mopan Maya communities when I was 30.

The screenplay itself made it into the UK Film Festival London and the Beverly Hills Film Festival without me having any connections.

Over the years, people have supported and joined the project because of what they felt while reading the screenplay.

Now it’s coming alive - it’s unbelievable to me.

Thanks to my people who have joined this journey.

I went surfing with @chiarameattelli, and she blows a whistle before getting into the water. I asked, "Kiki, what's up with the whistle?" She said it's a meditation whistle, tuned to the right frequency. That got me thinking.
I asked my rabbi if there are any prohibitions against blowing a shofar as a ritual before surfing. He said no. My mom happened to be visiting and was right there, and she said she had my zaidy's (grandfather's) shofar, and could send it to me.
So Kiki, I see your meditation whistle, and I raise you a ram's horn.

In 1989, Ayatollah Khomeini called for the death of Salman Rushdie over a book he hadn’t read.

In September 2026, Israel’s prime minister vowed to strip the citizenship of anyone who “defames” soldiers, over a film he hadn’t seen.

The West made a colossal mistake by not coming to Rushdie’s defense. Some of us said the wrong things. Most of us said nothing. Not all of us, but not enough of us. The price was paid by others: Ettore Capriolo, stabbed in Milan. Hitoshi Igarashi, found stabbed to death in Japan. Aziz Nesin’s hotel, set on fire in Sivas. Rushdie himself, stabbed on stage in 2022.

NAZA: So far no one has died over it. Let’s keep it that way.
