Hey 👋

Welcome to all the new faces here!

For a while, I’ve been hiding behind my own work, always feeling better at pointing the camera than being in front of it. I’ve always had an ironic fear of being seen, given my profession.

Recently, a new client asked me on the phone ‘What do you actually look like’? Between all of the new faces, the clients' question, and almost getting my account hacked, I figured now was as good a time as any to say, what's up 🙂

So, here’s a bit about who I am, where I've come from, and what I care about.

Swipe through - and if anything in there resonates, reach out. I'd love to hear from you. taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @harrison.j.studios

The most last-minute shoot I've ever done

We were both staying at the same hostel, with less than 24hrs until Naomi flew out of Bali we decided to do a shoot in the back yard of @tribal_bali.

Somehow, having never stood in front of the camera before, its fair to say @longislandicedgal absolutely killed it 🐍 by @harrison.j.studios

🎉 GIVEAWAY TIME🎉

I spend most of my life in the studio, so today I jumped on my bike and rode out to my favourite oak tree to get some sunlight and film this thing ☀️

Firsty - thank you to everyone that got involved! So cool to see so many new faces pop up as a result.

And the winner is... Bianca 🎉 Congrats!!! I'll be in touch with all the details.

If you didn't win, I've still got something for you. I can't offer this to everyone (there were just too many entries for that), so it's limited to the first 10 people who reach out and book the deposit for their first shoot:

✨ 15% off - first 5 people who book in their deposit

how to read a poem.

a practical field guide inspired by Harold Bloom.

“Read these poems to yourself in the middle of the night. Turn on a single lamp and read them while you’re alone in an otherwise dark room or while someone else sleeps next to you. Read them when you’re wide awake in the early morning, fully alert. Say them over to yourself in a place where silence reigns and the din of the culture—the constant buzzing noise that surrounds us—has momentarily stopped. These poems have come from a great distance to find you.

I think of Malebranche’s maxim, “Attentiveness is the natural prayer of the soul.” This maxim, beloved by Simone Weil and Paul Celan, quoted by Walter Benjamin in his magisterial essay on Franz Kafka, can stand as a writer’s credo. It also serves for readers.

Paul Celan said:

‘A poem, as a manifestation of language and thus essentially dialogue, can be a message in a bottle, sent out in the—not always greatly hopeful—belief that somewhere and sometime it could wash up on land, on heartland perhaps. Poems in this sense, too, are under way: they are making toward something.’”
