We’ve written to the Prime Minister, alongside the #VATsTheProblem campaign and 800+ hospitality operators, calling for a lower rate of VAT for hospitality.

Hospitality businesses are facing continued increases in costs, making it harder to operate sustainably. A lower rate of VAT would make a meaningful difference to restaurants, pubs, cafés, hotels, nightclubs and leisure venues across the UK.

More than 370,000 people have already signed the petition.

10% is fair for hospitality.

Harts Group Supports the VAT’s The Problem Campaign

Hospitality is one of the UK’s largest employers and one of its most important contributors to social and economic life - to cities, neighbourhoods and the millions of people it employs. It is also a sector under significant pressure, with rising costs across employment, utilities and food, and a 20% VAT rate among the highest in Europe.

It’s why Harts Group is proud to support VAT’s The Problem, the industry-wide campaign calling for hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10%. Countries including Spain, France, Italy, Ireland and Germany already support their sectors with lower rates. The campaign asks the UK to do the same.

The campaign launches on July 1st, and we invite you to add your name to the petition via the link in our bio.

A huge congratulations to Anna Watkins on receiving one of Spain’s highest civil honours.

Anna, Director of Harts Group and Managing Director of Barrafina Group, has been awarded the Cruz de Oficial de la Orden de Isabel la Católica in recognition of her outstanding contribution to championing Spanish culture and cuisine on the international stage.

From building lasting relationships with regional producers and bringing some of Spain’s most exciting chefs to London through Barrafina Invita, to leading Barrafina’s first international opening in Dubai earlier this year - this moment reflects not just Anna’s leadership, but the passion and dedication of the entire team.

Presented at the Spanish Embassy in London last week and celebrated alongside friends, family and the Barrafina team, this honour recognises a longstanding commitment to sharing the richness, diversity and generosity of Spanish hospitality.

EP + AMIGOS: Santiago Muñoz Moctezuma (@maizajo)

Harts Group is pleased to announce the next EP + Amigos event in partnership with Tequila Herradura, will be Santiago Muñoz Moctezuma, chef-founder of Maizajo in Mexico City.

Santiago will bring his signature heirloom Mexican corn-based dishes, including tacos, tostadas, and other specialties to El Pastor London Bridge for a one-night-only dinner on Thursday 16th April.

Tickets are £50, which include a welcome drink. Spaces are limited.

A few of the amazing women who make what we do possible at Harts Group.

We are so proud of the talented women at all levels of Harts Group, whose impact is felt across our teams and for our guests. This International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting women and tackling gender inequity.

Below are some of the steps we have taken - and continue to take - to remove barriers to entry and progression, to attract and retain the very best talent, and support those who excel at their jobs whilst facing structural inequities.

1. In 2023 we introduced enhanced maternity (and paternity) pay.

2. In 2024 we welcomed Sofia Gassne to deliver Gender Equality workshops for our senior team.

3. In 2025, Gender Equality e-learning resources were launched - a mandatory compliance for all team members.

4. We have improved the signposting of our HR policies and processes by clearly outlining, in English and Spanish, harassment reporting, and acceptable/unacceptable behaviours in our handbook and on team noticeboards.

5. We have created a bilingual electronic confidential reporting form for any incidences of sexual harassment.

Our journey to B Corp accreditation is on hiatus however we remain committed to improving those aspects of gender equity.

El Siete, Soho’s new agave-led cocktail bar.

On 14th March, we open @bar_el_siete, a cocktail bar beneath El Pastor, in the heart of Soho. The 60-cover space, designed in collaboration with @macaulaysinclair, draws on Mexico City’s brutalist and modernist architecture, with specific attention to the timeless work of Luis Barragán.

Guests will enter through a discreet pink door on Brewer Street into a low-lit cocktail lounge. The room will centre around a terrazzo-topped island bar, with leather-trimmed lean bars that encourages real engagement between guest and bartender. The rest of the seating includes low-slung banquettes, poseur stools and vintage marble tables.

The cocktail programme, developed with @soulshakersltd, is structured around the number 7, with seven margaritas, seven agave cocktails and seven updated classics. Alongside this, a collection of around 60 mezcals and tequila that will span raicilla and capón to cacao-laced pechuga. El Pastor’s own batch 005 limited-edition mezcal, will make its debut here.

A short menu of seven tostadas made from El Pastor’s house-nixtamalized heirloom corn tortillas and chile de árbol popcorn complements the drinks, while a music programme created with @playlisterfm, supplemented by a rotating programme of guest mixes from cultural figures, is designed to lift the room at select moments.

El Pastor Soho reopens following a refurbishment.

The team have spent the start of the year transforming the space - informed by research trips to Mexico City’s historic cantinas and drinking dens, developed in close collaboration with our design partners @macaulaysinclair. The intention: to capture the particular aura of these rooms and make our Soho spot feel more alive.

The updated interior introduces lava stone booths, window counter seating for solo diners, and the iconic El Pastor handwashing station. Alongside an aesthetic transformation, practical elements have been carefully resolved to reduce those arctic wind tunnels when you step inside.

Barrafina’s first international opening debuts in Dubai

On Monday 26th January, we opened our first restaurant outside London: @barrafinadubai , bringing modern Spanish dining to a new community.

Executive Chef Antonio González Milla spent several weeks in Dubai overseeing the kitchen to ensure every dish meets our exacting standards. As Barrafina embraces this new region, we remain committed to sourcing the finest Spanish produce and continually expanding the range of authentic ingredients available in our kitchen.

The Dubai space features signature Barrafina touches while embracing the elegance of its new home. Twenty leather stools are arranged around a marble and stainless-steel counter with an open kitchen, and original works by Kate Boxer adorn the walls.

Guests can enjoy classic dishes such as tortilla, gambas rojas, and chicken thigh with romesco, together with new dishes like clams with salsa verde, Galician dry-aged beef, and bikini sandwiches with wagyu and truffle.

Cooking at the counter, just inches from the guest, has always been central to Barrafina. It’s a way of dining that was inspired by Spanish culture, shaped in London, refined over years and made possible by all who have been there from the beginning. by @hartsgroup

On Tuesday, 11th November, at Parrillan Borough Yards, we’ll be celebrating our first-ever La Matanza - Spain’s age-old festival honouring the pig and the artisanal traditions that remain cornerstones of Spanish cuisine.

In Spain, La Matanza is a communal gathering where families, friends, and neighbours work side by side, turning the day into a feast of music, laughter, and shared abundance.

Our £70 sharing menu pays tribute to this heritage, featuring our own house-made morcilla.

We’re taking part in the inaugural @worldfoodauction, a fundraising campaign to raise much needed funds for food related charities.

We are pleased to announce that Barrafina will open its first international restaurant at DIFC Gate Village 01, Dubai, at the beginning of 2026.

This milestone, delivered in partnership with Anthem Hospitality Group, marks the beginning of Barrafina’s expansion across the GCC and its debut in the Middle East.

It is an important step in Harts Group’s international growth, bringing @barrafinalondon’s award-winning modern Spanish cuisine to a new market.
