We were ill in my house over the festive break so I had a bit of time to do some gentle walks, take in the views and then put them into paint… every cloud n all that.

I always love coming back to watercolours, it’s so difficult to rush with them. I took the original photo on my favourite walking route nearby.

ID: A watercolour painting of a landscape shortly before sunset in winter. Faded greens in the foreground and bare trees in tbe background.
The rest of the pictures are the painting at various stages of completion and the last is the original photo.

Hercules

And the last of the puppets I made for #Upstream by @smokingapplestheatre is Hercules the Heron.

This show focuses on the conservation of our rivers, so I was keen to make the puppets using some items that might be found as rubbish in the environment to make them…

Hercules’ body is made from an empty 2l fizzy drinks bottle, and his feathers are made from an unwanted bath scrubber (unused), his wings are made from an old broken umbrella.

Lyra
Also created for Upstream by @smokingapplestheatre

Making this puppet included a fun new collaboration with my husband and his 3D printer, you will see some clips of the joints in this video. I had a lot of fun making Lyra and then getting to perform with her across the country.

VD: A compilation of photos and videos of making a table top puppet of a young girl. Lyra has big brown eyes and ginger hair, she wears a cap, patchwork dungarees, rainbow tights and blue crocs.

Oscar the Otter

So life got really busy this year, it’s been a big, full year and I am really grateful, but as usual, my social media dropped to the bottom of the list. I will try to catch you up a bit.

This is Oscar. I made him for @smokingapplestheatre ‘s latest new outdoor show - Upstream. (Currently tourbooking for 2026 😉)

His face and body is covered with old parcel bags as fur, to give him a wet look, and also to make him lightly waterproof for outdoor touring.

Reel description: A series of photos of a rod puppet of an Otter, his fur is brown and black, he has long wiry whiskers and black beads for eyes. There are some photos from the making process and a sped up clip of making his fur.

Hello, I’ve changed my surname back to Field.

Just letting you know to avoid any confusion really.

I’m also taking this opportunity to give myself permission to post more random photos, more cat photos, and not feel so strict with it needing to look good. Who knows, maybe this means I will post more often and actually share what I’m working on. Maybe executive dysfunction still won’t let me… 🤷🏼‍♀️

ID: a logo in purple rounded font says Hattie Field Design with a small orange puppet sitting on top of the letters.

P.S. please do not use this logo anywhere without my permission.

Here goes! I didn’t get the courage to post about this last year, and it has taken me all week to overthink this 😅

🌈✨#NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek ✨🌈

This is me, dressed up and ready for London (gulp) in one of my favourite ‘dopamine dressing’ outfits.

I was diagnosed autistic just over 2 years ago and embracing my need for colourful and comfortable clothing has been a key part of my unmasking journey so far. As well as my Yaks, I’m also wearing a sunflower lanyard, with pin badges on, and my loops and favourite fidget toy attached. In the second photo you might be able to spot my ‘enough’ necklace too. (@wear.and.resist )

Here’s some small adjustments I’ve made to make work more manageable:
For working from home days:
> I now have several stim/fidget toys on my desk, which I use throughout the day, including in Zoom meetings.

> I’ve asked my team for clear deadlines and instructions for tasks, if I don’t feel it’s clear, then I ask (and don’t apologise for asking).

> I take fresh air breaks, stepping out my door, taking a short walk or a run outside helps me focus when I return to my desk. It also helps me process information heavy meetings.

For in person/rehearsal days:
> I have a yoga mat so that I can lie down/sit down comfortably on the floor when I need to.

> I have noise cancelling headphones for travel.

I’m aware I’m in a really privileged position to have some access to work funding to help with equipment and support, and also to work with people who embrace my difference.

The last photo here is of me and a painting I did recently at my local theatre. “Your difference is your strength” ❤️

ID 1: Me, a tall woman with long grey hair, posing for a selife in brightly coloured clothing, pink, blue, yellow etc, also wearing a sunflower lanyard. The background is a yellow wall with a picture of a giraffe and leafy patterned curtains.

ID 3: Me posing with a large piece of artwork I did, its about 8 foot tall, and is a painting of a giraffe with the words ‘Your difference is your strength’

Snuggly kitten meets snuggly slipper. 🦒🐈‍⬛

I try to only post work things here. Often things don’t quite feel good enough and I’m struggling to enjoy some downtime in a quieter month. I seem to be on super high alert for being told off and being in trouble and it does put a fuzz over things. It’s a buzzing noise in my head, tension in my chest, and a constant feeling of not being worthy. I didn’t know it was called Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria until recently although it does make a lot of sense, sometimes that doesn’t make things any easier.
