What is a micron? Micron is a unit of measure used to determine the diameter of wool fibres. A lower micron indicates finer wool while a higher micron indicates coarser wool. Wool can measure between approximately 11 to 40+ microns. Haunui Wool is grown on our family farm based in the foothills of South Canterbury, New Zealand. We started breeding coloured sheep in the 1980s, with a goal of producing premium quality wool. We have a passion for breeding sheep whose wool has a stunning handle, soft enough to be used for next to skin clothing, yet long enough for easy hand spinning and maintaining handcraft characteristics. Our Haunui sheep have their own wide range of individual colours which are reflected in the collection of our wool. This gives our wool a natural warmth and depth. Kiwi Collection 2026 This was such a fun collection, thank you to the talented artists and everyone who supported it šŸ©· Please enjoy the reveals! @teapotyarns Ā Laura was inspired by the twinkly night skyline in Auckland for her colourway. The 70% Raven Hogget 18.6m with 30% A1+ Mulberry Silk base was the perfect steely coloured base for this. The city lights dancing over the harbour make for a vibrant yet moody vibe. @unionfibre Bonnie's inspiration for her braid was the pure joy and fun of being able to play with colours in her studio, you can definitely see this reflected in her braid! She had the new base of 70% Oatmeal 21.5m with 30% Lotus Fibre. @ambearlizmakes Amber's colourway is themed on a beautiful sunrise on the farm. Her base was the pretty Fog Hogget 18.4m, Amberā€™s colourway definitely gives me a lush summers day vibe! @strawberrypatches One of New Zealands most famous beaches is Piha. Marinaā€™s colourway, ā€˜Piha at Sunsetā€™, is perfect on the Artemis Haunui 20.6-21.5m base. The trio of colours work brilliantly, with the Raven stripe mirroring the black Volcanic sand at Piha against the stunning sunset. @handmaiden_nz Amy's ā€˜Tutti Fruttiā€™ colourway was inspired by the various varieties of New Zealand Kiwifruits. The concept began with a special memory of travelling the East Cape and visiting a Kiwifruit orchard in Te Puke, where a tasting platter showcased the fruitā€™s vibrant colours. Amyā€™s base is the Haunui Fudge 22.8m, this was the perfect fibre as it beautifully mimics the texture and tone of the fruitā€™s skin. #haunuiwool #fiberart by @haunuiwool

Sixth spin of the Tour De Fleece! The Yarn: 278 metres / 304 yards - 100g / 3.5oz - two ply fractal. Spun continuous backwards on my Majacraft Suzie with the fast pulley. The colourssssss! Fibre: ā€œField of Lupinsā€ dyed on 19.5 micron Pearl @haunuiwool from @inglenookfibers The Spin: The spin? The SPIN?! No, Iā€™m not talking about that, Iā€™m talking about these colours šŸ˜ They are vivid without being aggressive, bright but not neon and I was so locked in on having the next colour in my draft that I couldnā€™t stop spinning it. I went for a 1:2 fractal which isnā€™t usual for me, normally I want to break colours up as much as possible but in this case I wanted them to have big moments with only mild alteration. And ok letā€™s talk about the spin just a bit: sometimes dyed braids can be compressed to a degree. Iā€™ve spun some highly compressed and some that just have moments of felting in certain areas on the outside of the braid (I call these scabs ;). This one was just like spinning the incredible undyed Haunui rovings, which was crazy considering all that these braids go through in the dye process. It made me think that the dyers must be very patient and gentle, and I really appreciated the quality of the craft here. This is my first time spinning an Inglenook braid and 10/10 would love to spin again ā¤ļø 575g out of my 1kg goal! WHOOOOP! #stashdashers #dashelsroadtrip #tourdefleece by @haunuiwool

The 2026 Kiwi Collection Ā I was talking to a friend about last years Artisan Collection and how special it was collaborating with fibre artists around the world with a shared passion for Haunui Wool. I passed a comment about how a huge percentage of our wool is sent overseasā€¦. this gave us an idea! Why donā€™t we theme this years box on collaborating with all NZ dyers to share with the world? And so the Kiwi Collection was born! I kept the same concept as last year, giving each fibre artist a different Haunui Wool base to play with. There was no theme, I wanted the artists to be free to create whatever they desired with how their natural base inspired them. My favourite part of organizing this exclusive collection is seeing each persons individual flair come through in their braids. I hope you love this unique collection, perhaps this is also an opportunity for you to discover someone new! Today is the day of our annual fleece sale for US, Canada and NZ (12.30pm NZ Time). Haunui has always been produced with the handcrafter in mind. So when some of you get so excited about an opportunity to see, touch, and create your own Haunui project from scratch, we wanted to make it happen! A massive thank you to @mellyknits for coordinating with me to get fleeces into Canada, it's a lot of admin to make it happen but lucky for you guys she is a fibre enthusiast that doesn't shy away from a challenge! We can probably all agree on certain characteristics that we like in a fleece but when it comes to the finer details, it's a very personal thing. I hope you enjoy the fleeces I (Harriet) have chosen for you. šŸ©· I'm sorry I can't supply fleeces worldwide like I do our processed wool.
