October’s fibre drop will be a small but mighty collection as we settle into Spring nice and slow ☀️

The highlight for me is a battling set I’ve put together in a blend of hand processed, hand dyed fleece, lux fibre top and a sprinkling of special additions 🪄 This fleece is fresh off the sheep, shorn in September and is a delicious cross of Merino to English Leicester! I will share my test spin of some ‘blanks’ (undyed hand processed batts) in a separate post! I hope you enjoy these little bundles of joy - fab on spindles or the wheel!

I also have a very small offering of fibre top we haven’t seen before in the shop! You can see their stark differences in the 4th slide!

Up first is a blend of NZ Corriedale and Llama with some rayon thread milled in. This is a funky mix and the top has a real pillowy plushness to it that I haven’t experienced before. I’m excited to offer you FleeceFolk Fibre’s first foray into dyeing camelid fibre with these banana eared flock guards!

To contrast that I have a small handful of Australian mohair! This top is from QLD which adds to the list of “Things We Haven’t Done Before” ✍️ Glossy, shiny and sleek, this was really interesting to spin and the finished product is suuuuuper sheeeeny. I have also dyed a couple of these in solids if you’d like to mix them into batts with wool (would make for great socks!)

Here's my latest handspun skein - and my 3-ply combo yarn journey continues! 122g and around 280m. A bit easier to ply the 3 singles together this time, not perfect but certainly not as unbalanced as my first attempt. Progress is good! 🧶😊🌈

The first two singles are from Träffström Design: one a natural coloured Haunui wool and the other a Hanui wool and silk blend, dyed into a lovely "Tutti Frutti" happiness. So smooth and silky to spin, very nice and different from previous spins.

The third single is a total mix of varigated wool, from Hedgehog Fibres and one of their "Lucky Dip" bags. Actually this was the first fibre I purchased, years before I bought my Ashford E-spinner... 😆
Chose as light and pastel fibre as possible, with some pops of stronger blue, red and greens. Much trickier to spin, as the fibre wasn't combed top or a braid, so it was attaching pieces on an ongoing basis. So I would say that this single was much more "thick and thin" - but the finished yarn turned out soft, smooth and squishy! 💚

Here's my latest spun skein - yet another 3-ply combo spin! 97g and around 290m. Yet again, my singles are super thin, ranging from lace to light fingering. I guess that's what I do? 🤷‍♀️
This time I let the spun singles "rest" a bit longer before plying them together - and it was a lot easier to handle when some of the "energy" in the singles had the chance to calm down... 🌀⚡️🧶

The first two singles are yet again from Träffström Design: one a natural light coloured Haunui wool and the other a wool and silk blend, dyed into an awesome bright "Neon"! The pure Hanui wool is still easier for me to spin, without the silk addition that can make it a bit more slippery.

The third single is a total combo spin in itself, a mix of smaller varigated braids from Nestfiber and their Valentine calendar earlier this year. Not only a mix of colours but also of wool fiber: Falkland, Cormo, Merino, Silk, Polwarth etc. They’re for sure all different to spin, some smooth and some much more spungy.

Very happy with the final result! 🤗💚

Working monogamously on my knitting and spinning projects did work!
I’m now knitting the border of the Fluxus Shawl, it will be finished soon 😊

The spinning project I worked on this past week was this beautiful Fog @haunuiwool I’m now ready to ply!
Once it is washed and dry it will be casted on immediately 😂 can’t wait, really!
A new version of this sweater using my notes, to make sure I have a usable recipe to share ^^

Another sweater plan for the coming months is the Herman Sweater by Aurélie Tixier.
Sandrine @sandrin7682 was knitting this during our knitting weekend by the sea and I could not stop wanting it ^^ I’ll be using Drops Air held with silk mohair, probably alternating rows between Hedgehog Fibres’ and Kettu Yarns ^^

And the last sweater, but surely not the least important one! At last, l’ll knit the Instant Crush by Joji Locatelli, using the handspun Haunui yarn Advent expertly dyed by Karin @traffstromdesign last year.
It would be fun to wear it for Christmas!
We’ll see… there will be some thinking and planning before I can start, organising the colours but also managing the different yarn weights.
Luckily most skeins are DK and I should have plenty for the size I want to make ^^

I was happy to work only on two projects for the last 10 days (progress! Yay 🥳) but that made space for my brain to wander and imagining many other things to make ^^

This is the second bobbin of my sweater spin from some rich dark purple brown that I carded up recently.

It is incredibly difficult to capture the depth of this yarn on camera and to see all the tiny tweedy pops of colour.

I am loving the halo of the Mongolian Wool from @hilltopkatie

I will be plying this week and am excited to see how it turns out. 🖤
