After an awesome event, and an incredible day exploring Rhode Island I woke up to yet another Festival win. Boneyards has won its second award for Best Short Film @parisfilmawards . I can’t even find the words to describe how this makes me feel. This project has been in my bones for nearly a decade, countless rewrites, multiple reshoots, and for all of that hard work to be recognized is just incredibly humbling. Thank you to my amazing team and all of those who’ve believed in and supported me over the years in bringing this project to life. This is to you! Cheers taken in Paris, France by @hawk_9904

all photos shot by Christian James Nguyen ( @croissantwynnfilm ), minus parts of slide 17 and slide 18

The road to completion for this project has been a hell of a ride, and we’re technically still not done (editing, color grading, some additional photography for promotional material), but the fun stuff’s all over for now.

Special thank you to a great collaborator and a better friend, Payson ( @hawk_9904 ). Funny enough, when Payson approached me to work on this new passion project (initially solely as BTS photo+video), I actually gave him a tentative “no,” even though I liked the script, because I didn’t think I could afford to take any days off of work. My gut told me that, financial crisis aside, I gave the wrong answer. By that point, we had worked together many times, but we had yet to collaborate as producers. I called him some weeks later and said I’d take the time off if I could produce this new project with him, and I also told him his graphic designer – or lack of one – sucked (this actually happened lol), and that I’d really like to lead the film’s visuals in some capacity.

Thank you for entrusting me with as much as you have, Payson.

Here’s a token of my affection to the cast and crew of Project Static.

Love y’all

The Making of: The Ruckus
A Documentary Film by Christian James Nguyen
(Link in bio).

The doc also features clips from “The Ruckus” Official Trailer, edited and colored by cinematographer (and friend) @dorianthedp

Where do I even begin? To tell the true, untold story of a Black American icon in the South in the 1800s, bring his history to the forefront, and do it not only in a way that honored his story but also included local representation was already a Herculean task…

To entrust that history and vision onto a ragtag group of independent filmmakers (myself included in that “ragtag” mix)? From a bystander perspective, there was every reason to believe that this project would either implode on the day (and as seen even in just the trailer, we came close) or become scrapped later on if put in our hands.

Thank you to @patecray for entrusting the history of Bob Brewer to us at @storytimeguild and a separate thank you from myself for letting me free roam and photograph such an incredibly rich piece of real, historical land. I had genuine free range to go anywhere; thank you. Thank you to @mehmet.n.caglayan for rallying us up.

To my team and the other incredibly talented folks who worked on this, thank you for quite literally letting me get in your space during this shoot — it’s one thing to be ready to film a fictional scene, and it’s another to have a guy constantly putting you under surveillance with his camera for the entire day. No matter how up close and personal I got, you all stayed not only completely natural, but also welcomed me in.

I got to know @hawk_9904 ’s professionalism the most when I was directing him on my last film, “A Heist Away From Home.” He has a dedication to the craft that doesn’t compromise his kindness. Usually people only get to see the characters he plays as, and I’m glad I get to share this document of what it’s like to work with the man himself.

It was an adventure in a single day, and I wanted to capture that in this trailer. It’s 42 mins but if you liked the trailer, you will love the rest — I’m not upselling you, it’s free to watch.

No AI used. Link in bio. More soon from yours truly. Happy Juneteenth. by @hawk_9904

DivineAVision X @bluevoyageproductions in association with @storytimeguild Presents: “Ruckus: The Untold Story of Bob Brewer”

A gripping, heart-breaking true story that happened here in Southeast Georgia during the late 1800’s, about a man fighting for far more than we could ever imagine today. This is his story.

Starring @charliemanynames @thepatrickroper @jordanspauldingg @ideakjsmalls and Broc Savage

We are so thankful to have been invited by @mehmet.n.caglayan to be a part of this incredible project created by @patecray. With only one week of prep, one day to shoot it, and asking for every favor we possibly could, the sun finally began to rise and 16 long hours later we wrapped on the most important project we have ever been a part of. This is truly something extraordinary and special!
Special shoutout to @dorianthedp @tristanboggess @thebenbeauchamp @croissantwynnfilm and @patecray for helping us make this happen and the amazing caterers we had on set . We could not have kept going without the support or incredible food you guys provided us with 🙏🏽

Black and White or Color? Which do you prefer?

Had a blast doing this shoot with @davidmonroephotos He told me he wanted to do some b&w portraits but in a stripped down, raw kinda way . I was nervous at first but I’m so glad he gave me the opportunity to do something different . Thanks for helping me grow dude 🫶🏽 Genuinely one of the best photographers and people I know . Can’t wait for the next one !!
