It has been nearly a week since we lost you, Rodney. We have shared a lifetime of laughter, shared memories and deep friendship. We first met on the Man Show. You were a seasoned Costume Designer and I was the green Set Decorator. You were the cool guy; the Cheshire Cat, always observing and quick to have a witty response to whatever crazy thing was going on. You were a brilliant designer, engineering costumes for the Juggies that were beautiful, yet practical. (It is not easy to climb a pole in a silver bikini and have it not fall off, or so I have been told). We moved onto Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2003 and even though we ran different departments, we were always a unified team. I loved our deep professional and personal bond. When I left the show to have Ella, you confidently told me that I would be back. In the years I was away you would often reach out to keep me in the loop of what was going on with our JKL family. You always had the best stories. You won an Emmy for your brilliant work for designing dozens of fantastic Halloween costumes for the show. Your talent was unmatched. Frequently you would send me a simple “I miss you” and it always made me feel honored that you were thinking of me and it kept me tethered to your orbit. You were the first person I told that I was going to be returning to the show. You flashed me a giant smile and said, “I knew you would come back!” You have been such a tremendous part of my life and I am struggling to figure out how to do it without you. I am deeply honored to have walked this earth with you, my dear friend. It gives me comfort to know that you are with your Mom and Dad, once more. I love you forever and ever. by @hdecor8

Well, I did it! I moved both of my kids into college. (Gabe is on location for his show and was unable to join us). Milo is beginning his freshman year at NYU and Ella is beginning her senior year at Sarah Lawrence. Thankfully, they are both in NY and close to one another but it was a very busy few days. We shipped stuff, went shopping, filled up a rental car over and over again, unpacked boxes that have been in storage and fueled up on lots of NYC food. Ella and I walked a ton and did our best to maximize our last bit of time together. It was not easy leaving the city today. I miss them already, terribly. The only thing that is easing the pain is knowing that I will be back in a few weeks for work. This is one of the hardest things I have ever done as a parent, not going to lie. Today was a great day! I was lucky enough to get to attend D23 for work. After I finished setting up a shoot with @iamguillermo at the Honda Center I snuck over to the Anaheim Convention Center to hit the Expo floor. I had a feeling I might bump into a few of my favorite Disney peeps and I ended up getting to see some of my favorite humans on the planet! I feel very blessed to have so many fantastic folks in my life that are actively making this world a better place. Love each of you deeply! @ellanim8 met up with me for a much overdue visit with @ryno1185 , Bill and Diane. Bliss! After that we hit the parks and were gifted with another day of low crowds. We hopped on the monorail, walked onto Big Thunder, were able to stay on and ride it a second time and had a 15 minute wait for Rise of the Resistance. It felt like we were winning the lottery over and over. And on top of it all is was outstanding weather and I will cherish the memory of today for years to come. Heading back to the Expo tomorrow. Emmy voting has begun. We kindly ask for your Emmy consideration for Best Production Design for a Variety, Reality or Competition Series for Jimmy Kimmel Live. We submitted our Brooklyn sets this year because we are proud of how they turned out. We began the design process over 2 years ago, building everything at ABC Prospect in Los Angeles. We also could not have done this without the folks at Omega Cinema Props. We used their upholstery, drapery and rental departments for many elements in our set. As you may have heard, we were pulled off the air early last fall and just as we were packing our trucks to go to Brooklyn. We didn’t know in that moment if we would even get to build these sets we had worked so hard on. Our production team decided to send the trucks to Brooklyn anyway. After a few days, we were told that we were back on the air and that we would be going!!! We felt supported by Disney and the fans of the show. It was a time filled with extreme highs and lows for the 200+ people that work at Jimmy Kimmel Live. We all love what we do and we would be very honored if you would consider us when voting. I also want to thank my incredible Local 44 crew for everything they did to contribute to this, as well as the drivers and teamsters that moved everything across the country. I love being a Set Decorator and am so honored to have worked on these sets. by @hdecor8

Happy 21st Birthday to my daughter and best friend. @ellanim8 it is hard to put into words how much joy you have brought into my life. We have had so many adventures traveling the world, exploring cuisines, listening to music, sharing cinema, laughing about everything and otherwise making the best out of a crazy world. I am endlessly proud of you. You have spent the past year studying abroad in Prague and it has been magical watching you achieve all of your dreams. I cannot wait for you to return home so we can hit all of the LA taco joints. Love you so very much!!! by @hdecor8

Shared a gorgeous weekend in NYC with @milohmiller attending NYU’s Weekend on the Square/Admitted Students event. All of the city seemed to be out and about, enjoying the sunny weather. Milo will be attending Tisch with one of his lifelong besties and we all had so much fun exploring the school together, fueled by delicious bagels. Milo and I also got to see Dog Day Afternoon, featuring the outstanding Scenic Design of @davidkorins with added contributions from @joecelli1 and @justinwestagram The show is outstanding but the set took my breath away. If you are able to see it, I highly recommend doing so. We feel so fortune to get to enjoy four continued years in one of our favorite places on earth. taken in New York City by @hdecor8

Last night felt like a dream. It was an incredible honor to have been nominated for Jimmy Kimmel Live’s very first Art Director’s Guild Award in the Variety/Reality Series category. It was such a special event and it really felt good to be in a room with so many talented and inspiring peers, many of whom are beloved friends. The world is in turmoil right now and last night provided some much needed escapism. It was fun to get gussied up with Production Designer @artcat829 and Art Director @hillarieb We were representing a large team of talented folks including graphic artists, scenics, set dressers, buyers, teamsters and on and on. The true secret to our craft is collaboration. I feel blessed to have my dream job, with my dream work family, especially at this volatile time in our industry. I don’t take any of this for granted. Today is my birthday and I want to thank everyone who has been calling, texting, messaging, etc.. I am usually a hide in the shadows kind of person on this day. But the world is in a pretty dark place right now and I think we can all use a reason to celebrate. My beloved crew spoiled me yesterday with a lunch poolside at the Roosevelt, followed by 3 desserts, tons of balloons and presents. It was over the top but I am leaning into it. Today, I marched with Milo and his classmates, protesting the horrific actions of ICE. I was lucky enough to bump into some of my besties, including @rosiecd My birthday wish is that we can turn things around in this country. There is far too much hatred and intolerance. If you have not been touched by what is happening, you are lucky. This is not a moment to turn away or make excuses for the cruelty that is being committed. We have a whole lot that we need to fix, as a collective. My heart and soul are aching for the joyful innocence that I was lucky enough to experience growing up in the 80’s. I am sad that my kids have not been so blessed. Today is a mixed bag of emotions to say the least. I am grateful for all that is good in my life and I will never allow myself to take that for granted. Sending love to all of you who are hurting right now. Thank you for being a part of my world. Christmas was a little different this year. Ella is doing her junior year of college at Prague Film School. I was lucky enough to be able to join her for my winter break. If you know me, you know that I have developed a bit of a Christmas Market addiction. We took in the various markets in Prague and then hopped on a train to Vienna, which has become one of my favorite places in Europe to visit. And then we returned to Prague for Christmas, making a lovely dinner together in her flat. We also decided to work in a day trip to Dresden, Germany and were happily surprised to find out that there were a few markets that were still open. Needless to say, LOTS of glühwein and delicious foods were consumed! I also came back with more collectible mugs from the markets and more Christmas decorations to add to my collection. It is odd to open up social media and see my friend trending on every known news outlet. It feels like an out of body experience. Privately, Cleto was a dear friend who I was honored to be able to help decorate the first home he ever owned. At the time we were not sure if our little talk show would get cancelled and Cleto was quite anxious about spending a lot of money. He agonized over every purchase, as we shopped for what seemed like forever, selecting the right pieces for his bachelor pad. I had to counsel him to maybe select things that were not just black leather, chrome and glass. We laughed a lot and in the end I think he was happy with what we got. More recently, we joked about the frailty of those early days at Kimmel and how we couldn’t believe that we were still on the air. It has been a tough year, to say the least. My heart is broken for Lori and their kids. And most especially for Cleto Sr and Sylvia who are like second parents to everyone on our crew. Today was brutal but I would not have wanted to be anywhere else than amongst my beloved work family. Jimmy delivered a deeply heartfelt monologue tonight. I encourage everyone to watch. Happy 18th Birthday, @milohmiller ! It is hard for me to find the words to express how much I love you. You make me proud, each and every day. You are one of the kindest humans I know. I love hearing about the things you are passionate about. As a filmmaker, you are open to new ideas and always seem to be reaching for the stars. I marvel at how you manage to do so much in a day. I am very much looking forward to seeing what you do in this life. It is an honor to be your Mom. I hope you have the best birthday, ever!!! by @hdecor8

JKL in Brooklyn… here are just some of the folks that made our sets come to life. There were 200 of our JKL family that flew to NYC and we were supported by the massive Local 4 stage crew at BAM. Not to mention all of our crews back in LA that helped us prep and load all of our gear. From the ABC set shop at Prospect to the upholstery department at @omegacinemaprops to my Local 44 set dec team in LA (@jilly.rosy, @tara.tobler, Drew, Ralph, Chelo and a TON of day players). Extra special shoutout to my Leadman Donnie Williams (who is not on social media) for damn near killing himself all summer as we prepped Brooklyn while keeping up with our exhausting schedule of shows with guest hosts. It was a massive undertaking and I am just so thrilled that all of it came together as it did. @artcat829 Production Designed one heck of a set!!!
