Malaysia (2016)

10 years ago, I went to Malaysia knowing three people.

Through Instagram, I ended up connecting with a bunch more.

That trip changed me forever, and a decade later I still have so much love for the people I met, the places we went and all the little moments in between.

It really is about the friends we made along the way.

My brudda @niftysoawesome got married. We went from ATL days to working from 9AM-3AM everyday. Proud of you, it was a blessing to be at your nikkah. Biggest of love big man. We had a ball over the nikkah and ceremony! taken in Middlesex by @headscarfpapi

Had the opportunity to direct the visualiser for “ROUND & ROUND” with Sam Gellaitry.

Shot across West and East London, we leaned into a VHS aesthetic, following Sam through familiar places for the deluxe release of ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT.

Great finally getting to work together after years of mutual friends. Alongside directing, shooting and grading the visualiser, I also created additional content for the album rollout. Sam then took the edit further and shaped the final version that was released.

I started making music because I wanted another way to bring ideas to life. It’s become a huge part of my creative process.

Composed the score across this series of Zegna films. Jay also composed a piece for the campaign, which was sick to see as he brought his musical talents into his visual work.

THEY CHANGED WHEN I DID

Barney and I both grew up in Newham. We both went to Brampton Manor and spent years moving through East Ham and the places that quietly shape you long before you realise it.

This series became an ode to where we came from. Rather than using Newham as a backdrop, we wanted it to become a character. Every location was chosen because it meant something to us. We wanted to revisit the streets, landmarks and memories that made us, and depict them with the same beauty we experienced growing up there.

Newham has produced storytellers and artists like Kano, David Bailey and Idris Elba. This was our love letter to home.

One of my coolest friends, my brother Alex Sawyer got married. Often people will ask us how we met, and we’ll say ‘at a bar.’ He’s a person that showed me possibility, and introduced me to many friends that will be in my life for life. We created many beautiful things and we will continue to do so. Alina just makes him a better him. Love you both. Love the house of Anubis gang. Love is beautiful.
