🌼 Who are the Elderflowers?

We’re a family of healthcare clowns with a very special mission: bringing music, laughter, and a little bit of magic to people living with dementia in hospitals and care homes across Scotland.

With songs, curious objects, stories and plenty of imagination, the Elderflowers create moments of connection that can be wonderfully unexpected. One minute it might be a boisterous sea shanty voyage across the ward, the next a first dance in an imaginary ballroom — or simply a gentle, whispered conversation between friends. 🎶💃⚓

For people living with dementia, life can sometimes feel confusing and isolating. Our visits offer a chance to feel seen and heard — creating joyful moments that can linger long after we’ve gone.

✨ And we’ve been making these magic moments for 25 years!

Now, we’d love your help to make sure the Elderflowers can brighten lives for another 25. 🌼

With your donation, we can reach more care homes, make more visits and bring more moments of joy to more ladies and gents living with dementia.

As one care home staff member told us:

“When people have had a visit with the Elderflowers, they can seem happy, almost as if their pain and bothers are lifted.”

Celebrating Play in Healthcare Week! 😀
Today we are at the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People Edinburgh.
Say hello if you are in the hospital 😀
The Clowndoctors are delighted to be increasing the number of visits each week in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Look out for the Clowndoctors 🔴

Play in Healthcare Week helps raise awareness of the benefits of healthcare clowning in assisting the Play Teams in children's hospitals across Scotland and the UK.
Our Clowndoctors work closely with the Play Teams to get to know a little about the children they are being asked to visit, then the Clowndoctors can go in ready to be led by the child in a visit of music, playfulness and imagination.
Research has shown that healthcare clowning aids wellbeing and recovery for children in hospital.

So let's celebrate Play in Healthcare Week and remember that it doesn't just last for one week the Clowndoctors are out on the wards all year round! Swipe to read more.

What exactly is a Clowndoctor? 🤔❤️
They're specially trained performers who work alongside healthcare teams to bring laughter, imagination and connection to children and families in hospitals.
No two visits are the same. Clowndoctors always follow the lead of the person they're visiting, creating moments of playfulness and distraction during some of their most difficult days.
And sometimes, a little laughter can make a difficult day feel that bit brighter.
