POSTS STORIES REELS

Heartstone turns 18 on October 9.

And before we get there, I want to go back to the beginning.

Before the studios. Before the destination wedding films. Before hundreds of wedding days and thousands of hours of footage.

There was a camera, a girl who didn’t want to miss anything, and absolutely no idea where any of it would lead.

Over the next few weeks, I’m opening the archive and sharing pieces of the story I’ve rarely told.

Not just how Heartstone became what it is.

But what 18 years of telling other people’s stories taught me about the ones worth keeping.

This is where it started.

Chapter I: Beginning.

Come walk through the story with me.

There’s a difference between pointing a camera at something and learning how to see a story.

That took time.

Wedding after wedding. Thousands of hours behind a camera. Learning when to move and when to stay still. When the thing happening on the edge of the frame mattered more than the thing happening in the middle of it.

Somewhere along the way, I started to understand that the perfect shot wasn’t always the most important one.

It was the people. The voices. The glances. The moments that disappear almost as quickly as they happen.

I didn’t know it then, but those years were teaching me far more than how to make a wedding film.

They were teaching me how to tell a story.

Chapter II: Becoming.

Heartstone turns 18 on October 9.

Come walk through the story with me.

CHAPTER III: REMEMBRANCE | Heartstone Comes of Age

18 years. Hundreds of weddings. Thousands of stories. And one girl with a camera who didn’t want to miss anything.

When I started Heartstone Films in 2008, I thought I was making wedding films.

I was. But looking back, I understand we were making something more.

A way back.

To the promises. The people. The moments we didn’t know we’d miss. The things worth remembering.

And somewhere in the process of revisiting 18 years of wedding films, photographs, studios, teams, and memories, those stories brought me back, too.

Back to the girl who started it all.

Heartstone didn’t become everything I once imagined. But it became something I’m incredibly grateful for.

To every couple who trusted us with their story, every person who worked alongside me, and everyone who believed in what we were building, thank you.

Stone by stone, you helped build Heartstone.

I don’t know exactly what the next chapter looks like. But I know what I’m carrying forward.

The storyteller was there all along.

Here’s to 18 years of Heartstone Films. And to all the stories still worth telling.

Come walk with me.

If Heartstone has ever been part of your story, I’d love to hear what you remember. by @heartstonefilms

Hey friend,

Maybe you’re in a chapter you never saw coming.

One you wouldn’t have chosen. One that looks nothing like the story you thought you’d be living by now.

I don’t know what the next pages hold for you.

But I hope you’ll leave room for the possibility that there’s still something beautiful ahead.

You don’t have to know how the whole story unfolds to believe it isn’t over.

Keep turning the page.

A little spooky. A little romantic. And a whole lot of heart. 🖤

Bringing Megan & Alex’s beautiful October wedding back from the Heartstone archives just in time for Halloween.

Between the moody details, the magic of Dover Hall, and the sweetest words from the mother of the bride, this one has always been something special.

Because even the darkest, most dramatic love stories can be incredibly tender.

Heartstone Films, From the Archives 🎥

A wedding is a day. A marriage is a lifetime.

Years ago, this was one of the first films visitors saw when they landed on our website or met us at a wedding show.

It was one of our demo reels. A collection of weddings, moments, and memories woven together with a reading that captured exactly what I believed we were there to preserve.

The voice you hear wasn’t recorded by a professional voiceover artist. It was a reading delivered by a bridesmaid or friend at one of our weddings. And all these years later, I still think it’s one of the most beautiful readings we’ve ever captured.

Because for me, it was never just about the wedding day.

It was about the marriage. The promises. The commitment to keep choosing each other long after the celebration was over.

That belief became part of the heartbeat of Heartstone.

And lately, something really sweet has been happening. Couples from weddings we filmed more than a decade ago have been reaching out, sharing memories, and apparently watching these old films to see if they can spot themselves. 😂❤️

So here’s another one from the archives.

If you were a Heartstone couple back in the day, keep your eyes open. You might just make an appearance.

And if you spot yourself, PLEASE tell me. I want to know. 🥹

Wedding filmmaking in the MiniDV era was a different kind of commitment.

Before memory cards and instant file transfers, we were carrying cameras like the Sony PD170 around for 10-hour wedding days and going through 8–10 MiniDV tapes at a single wedding, sometimes more because I couldn’t miss anything.

And then we came home.

Every. Single. Tape. had to be captured onto the computer in real time.

One hour of footage = one hour just to get that footage onto the computer.

So yes, I quite literally relived your wedding in real time more than once.

Was it wildly inefficient by 2026 standards? Absolutely.

Do I still have boxes of MiniDV tapes to prove we paid our dues? Also absolutely.

There’s something really fun about going back through 18 years of Heartstone and remembering just how much wedding filmmaking has changed.

The MiniDV Era. We survived. 🎥

This has always been the heart of filmmaking for me.

Not just documenting what happened, but noticing what mattered.

The way they looked at each other.
The sound of someone’s laugh.
The people who filled the room.
The voices you don’t yet know you’ll miss.

Because years from now, the smallest moments may become the ones you treasure most.

That’s why we tell stories.

Not just so you can remember what it looked like.

So you can remember what it felt like.

Stories worth remembering. Films worth keeping.

10 Things Couples Tell Me They Wish They Knew Before Their Wedding Day

After filming weddings for nearly twenty years, certain themes keep appearing.

Not the color palettes.

Not the trends.

Not the things that looked beautiful for a moment.

The things people wish they protected.

The moments they wish they slowed down for.

The words they wish they had written down.

The ten minutes they wish they had taken alone together.

And the things they kept long after the flowers were gone.

The best wedding days aren’t perfect.

They’re present.

So I put together a free guide with ten observations from two decades behind the lens.

Not as rules.

Just reminders from someone who has had the privilege of witnessing hundreds of love stories.

If you’re planning a wedding, I hope it helps you focus on the things that matter most.

Download the full guide at the link in bio.

Because some stories are worth remembering.
And some things become family heirlooms.

Saturday, while filming a wedding, I kept seeing videos from the Hurricanes celebration.

Thousands of people cheering.

A Stanley Cup.

A city celebrating.

And there was Rod Brind’Amour holding the trophy.

Most people were seeing a championship.

I was remembering a wedding.

Sixteen years ago, I filmed Rod and Amy’s wedding.

It was my first major athlete wedding, and if I’m being honest, I barely slept the night before.

I was so nervous.

Then I walked into the bridal suite and met Amy.

Instantly, every nervous feeling disappeared.

She was joyful, funny, kind, and the kind of person who lights up every room she enters.

I remember thinking, “This is going to be a good day.”

One of the things I remember most about that wedding happened before the ceremony.

Because of the church’s restrictions, Amy and Rod recorded private messages to each other before the wedding.

What stayed with me wasn’t any particular sentence.

It was realizing they both referenced the same inside joke without knowing what the other had said.

Separate rooms.

No script.

No preparation.

Just two people who knew each other so well that their messages fit together perfectly.

And later, when Rod saw Amy for the first time…

His reaction was one of the most genuine moments I’ve ever captured.

Saturday, watching him hold the Stanley Cup, I wasn’t thinking about hockey.

I was thinking about that look.

That moment.

That wedding.

Congratulations, Rod and Amy.

I’ve been cheering you on ever since.

Rod & Amy Brind’Amour’s Wedding Film | Why I Chose Not to Re-Edit It

When I first watched this film again, the creator in me immediately started making notes.

I could shorten this.

Re-edit that.

Change the pacing.

Update the style.

Sixteen years is a long time.

A lot has changed.

The way I film.

The way I tell stories.

The equipment.

The experience.

The person behind the camera.

But the more I watched, the more I realized this film wasn’t supposed to be updated.

It was supposed to be remembered.

This wedding happened exactly once.

This film was created in that season.

By that version of me.

And there is something beautiful about preserving it exactly as it was.

Growth is a gift.

But so is remembrance.

You aren’t trying to rewrite your past.

You’re learning how to honor it.

Because some stories are worth preserving exactly as they were.

Stories Worth Remembering.
Films Worth Keeping.
