25 years ago today, on a Monday afternoon in a garden in Fort Worth, we said “I do” in front of a small group of our closest family and friends. 3 states, 3 kids, 3 pets, a mountain of wonderful moments and a few really really hard moments. It hasn’t been easy but it’s been rich. We’ve deeply tested the “in sickness and in health” vow. You’re the last person I want to say goodnight to and the first person I want to say good morning to. Thank you for being by my side for 25 years @ebondia. Let’s do another 25! by @heaterm

Sometimes people come into your life and you didn’t know how much they would change you. @singerina805 came in to #MaddieandtheTest about halfway through production as our Short Circuit Program Manager. The breath of fresh air, unwavering support, and long conversations we’ve had since then are innumerable. I’m lucky enough to call her producer and humbly call her a friend. Our Heather Squared meetings will always be my favorite part of the week. Heather has helped on a number of Short Circuit projects and is a producer on the upcoming Songs in Sign Language. She helped carry this project to the finish line and I can’t wait to keep working with her! #shortcircuit #disneyanimation by @heaterm

As part of the Short Circuit Program, you can request a Directing Mentor. I hit the jackpot when I was connected with the one and only @trentanimation. He joined early on and immediately treated me like an equal and offered his help with whatever was needed. He was a part of the braintrust where we cooked up the idea of Name Maddie and did this test while traveling on a plane. His unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement are such an integral part of this project. We still meet occasionally and I’m always grateful to learn from him. #maddieandthetest #disneyanimation #dyslexia by @heaterm

Continuing with the incredible people who helped with Maddie and the Test, the wonderful @katiefico joined the project just before we began production as our Short Circuit Advisor. Katie was operating essentially as a VFX Supervisor, partnering with all the production departments and me to coordinate and streamline our workflow. She navigated some challenging moments with integration of the Hand Drawn and CG elements on the page. Katie never wavered in her belief that we would solve anything we ran up against, giving us all confidence to push on things we hadn’t done before. And, if you know Katie, she is the kindest human on the planet, which made the experience of collaborating with her so special! #MaddieandtheTest #DisneyAnimation #dyslexia by @heaterm

Thank you to the deeply talented @briansfart2!! He was the very first person to say, “I believe in this idea! Let’s go!” And helped from the day of selection all the way through post production. He’s an incredible filmmaker in his own right, go watch Hair Jitsu on @disneyplus to see his talent for comedy and timing!

Hard to believe the summer is over and we’re here. Back to school.

But for one kiddo, the last back to school 🥹😫😭 Excuse me while I go cry in the corner.

Couldn’t get all three in one photo this year because my two youngest have zero period activities. Gonna be a busy year. by @heaterm

Yesterday we did Russell Family Fun Day 2025. A tradition we started when the kids were little and we had no money for vacations. It was always towards the end of summer. Each person gets a pick and we have to do those things as a family.

With a senior, a sophomore, and a 7th grader, these moments are terribly precious, especially when these kids will have jam packed schedules in a few weeks. ❤️ by @heaterm

Beginning band and jazz band and baseball, oh my! A weekend full of my kids’ activities, so proud to see their hard work paying off in the activities they love!
