Day one of D23 2026 was off to a relaxing start! I finally met @heaterm, say hi to Pete Docter again, congratulated Eric Goldberg for his Disney Legend, saw a sneak peek of Loving Dory, seeing that Stitch statue, and we all know the title of the second Simpsons Movie. Happy to see everyone here this year!

I had the special opportunity to work on the Disney Short “Maddie & the Test”💜 Specifically, figuring out what dyslexia might look like.

A challenge for sure, requiring some research. -but from audiences with dyslexia that previewed it, I was told I did ok😮‍💨🙂

With @heaterm directing, I had a wonderful time creating and learning about a condition many still know little about. Heather has the best quote when asked about her motivation.

“For those without dyslexia, that they can see. And for those with dyslexia, that they feel seen.”♥️✨

I hope you had a chance to see it on Disney+, under the Short Circuit playlist.

I’ll simplify the process, using one of the shots that served as the pinnacle of dyslexia chaos.

2: There were many stages, but I started with animating with keyframes, then to procedural setups in Houdini for the more chaotic moments.

3: We needed more chaos here, so I added additional words flying off the page. Perhaps some artistic license was taken, but we wanted to capture the emotion of feeling overwhelmed.

4: Then legend Mark Henn, added all the hand drawn animations. Pretty cool!!

4: It was all put together, and beautifully lit in Lighting. This is the final shot.

6: Here is an another shot and example of how dyslexia was visualized in its different stages.

7: An early proof of concept test animated in Houdini.

8: Just included this shot because Maddie is just so darn cute!!🥹🥰

Hope you enjoyed!

So I saw the latest two shorts from the Walt Disney Animation Studios Shorts Circuits projects by Larry Wu and @heaterm. The first one Life Drawings was visually unique with its presentation and concept about being an artist. The second one Maddie & the Test was about Dyslexia and I think it was handled well. Also Mark Henn did the animation for the latter. Absolute must sees in my book and hopefully @disneyanimation does more Short Circuit stuff soon. They are amazing.

I wanted to make a post for Zootopia 2’s release—as per usual, I’m late 🫠 Buuuuut that means I get to say THANK YOU, thank you so much to everyone who has shown our film some love this weekend. The response has been unbelievable, and while ofc the numbers are astounding, I’m most heartened to hear how so many folks think it is a worthy sequel…we tried really hard to make something fun and entertaining and endearing and I’m so happy folks are enjoying it. I also love seeing some people saying that they could feel that the crew had fun making it, because that was absolutely true for me. Working on Zootopia 2 was a dream & I’m so grateful we get to share that with the world. Proud of this movie. Proud of this crew.

Thanks once again to Jared, Byron, and Yvett for their incredible support and leadership. I feel so lucky that I got to work with them

Getting to be a team with @davidvantuyle and @staytundfilms was the absolute best…and all the flowers to our dear story team—Thank y’all for making it the best experience ever. As head of story, I really was the lucky one. I got to see everyone work and it was like a masterclass in boarding. You all inspire me endlessly.

And thank you everyone for loving our film. Please keep watching and sharing! And please, when you see our dear friend Babatunde Akinloye’s name in the credits, give a little cheer and shout. He was so proud of the work and would be jazzed to know how the world is enjoying it. I wish with all my heart that he was here to see it ❤️
