It’s World Mental Health Day, and as someone who has struggled with eating disorders, OCD, depression, and orthorexia for most of my life I am here to celebrate. I am so incredibly proud of these first 3 photos, because they represent a new chapter of my life in which intentional movement is an outlet, not a punishment and food is accompanied by joy, not anxiety. My body may not be smooth and flawless, but it is so strong and powerful. The remaining photos represent a shell of me- the me that had to body check hourly, the me that cried in restaurants because I feared ruining my progress, the me that treated the gym as penance, the me that thought my value went up as my weight went down. Sometimes I cry for her- the me that couldn’t love myself. But today, as a fitness coach, I get to help people fall in love with themselves and adopt intentional movement as an expression of what they’re capable of. The confidence I have gained working in this industry and doing hard things with this incredibly capable vessel has healed parts of me I thought would be forever broken. I am so lucky to have received the support and interventions I did, because I know where that path was leading me. If you or someone you know is struggling, there is hope and there is help.
