What a lovely event on Saturday with @squeetus, celebrating her newest middle grade graphic novel DREAM BIG, the sequel to DREAM ON.

The writer in me especially appreciated when she unfurled her rejection letters from early on in her career. Dream big, indeed!

Thanks for hosting, @boulderbookstore! by @heather_preusser

Huge hedge-hugs to @marciecolleen for creating this sharp curriculum guide for my HEDGEHOG WHODUNIT chapter book series with @gal_weizman! It includes discussion questions, activities, and writing prompts, and it's FREE! Link in bio.

Tomorrow, July 24th, is National Private Investigators Day! What better way to celebrate than to get cozy with two of our favorite early graphic chapter book series:

SQUIRREL LOCK HOLMES: THE PET ROCK MYSTERY by @ashleybeloteillustration @rhkidsgraphic.

SHERLOCK ROACH by Joe McGee and @chickengirldesign @simonkids.

We're looking forward to book 2 in both series!

I think Squirrel Lock Holmes, Mole Watson, Sherlock Roach, and Dr. Wormston would get along well with Hitch and Vinnie. by @heather_preusser

Look what we picked up at @compositionshop!

GHOST TOWN IN THE MOUNTAINS by @lynnbecker196 and @rolandgarrigue and published by @sleepingbearpress is such a rollicking read-aloud!

The first time I read it with my six-year-old, he said, "Those people look like the Wills and the Won'ts!" which is another one of our all-time favorite picture books by @angelawoolfeauthor. by @heather_preusser

What a joy to meet Scott Harrison; his wife, Ellen; their dog, Eden; and this bighorn sheep!

I'm honored to share Scott's story and how he spent 25 years creating @carouselofhappiness, 25 years transforming sadness to happiness; it's a work of art, a work of wonder, a work of whimsy.

THE CAROUSEL OF HAPPINESS, a picture book written by me and illustrated by @naokostoop, comes out from @rockypondbooks in summer 2028!

I talk to my 9th grade students about Jane Yolen a lot: How she published 450 books because she put her butt in the chair and did the work, how my HEDGEHOG WHODUNIT chapter book series wouldn't exist without her (in her generous Jane way, she told me to get my butt in the chair and write the book), and how she and @heidieys gave every Picture Book Boot Camper this placard with--you guessed it--Jane's Butt In Chair mantra, which I project every time we do Writing Workshop in my classroom.

Last weekend, when @juliefhedlund and I wanted to honor Jane, we decided on BIC because that's what writers do: they put their butt in the chair and do the work, even when it's hard, even they're heartbroken. I hope we made Jane proud. Thank you, @jyolen and @heidieys for making me a better writer and a better teacher. ❤️🙏 by @heather_preusser

I'm so excited to share this news! @carouselofhappiness captured my heart when I first visited it with my son back in 2023, and I'm so thankful to Scott for trusting us with his story. It's an honor to work on this project with @jllitagcy, @laurihornik, @rockypondbooks, @naokostoop. by @heather_preusser
