Today is my Birthday!
I’m 50!!!!
I said I would do it!! 🤣
I also said, It’s never too late to “face your fears” & “follow your dreams” - They might even be one & the same … (story time)
SNL & I both made our debut in October of 1975 - they on the 11th - me exactly 2 Saturdays later on the 25th. Perhaps that’s why it’s perfect timing to tell a little known secret dream I had in high school to run off to NYC & join the cast! 🤣 Obviously I did NOT pursue this, or tell anyone but my best friend at the time, but a few years after I graduated, the force & comedic genius that is #MollyShannon came on the scene & I felt like she was living my dream!
I’ve been looking forward to this milestone for so many reasons. Without getting too heavy (#IYKYK) I’m just so grateful to be here, able to kick, stretch & kick (once anyways lol), and ready to celebrate in a big way!!
Btw this was 1 take!
For years I’ve been saying I was going to embrace one of my fave characters #sallyomalley to commemorate the occasion! Promised in silliness, but I always stick to my word. I did think about chickening out though 😆 mostly bc I wasn’t sure exactly how I would do it. Bc my birthday is so close to #Halloween I thought I’d at least dress up - then when the outfit arrived I decided I’m doing a video! I purposely learned #TikTok (sorta) for this & found a couple sound bites… it wasn’t til I was cleaning out my office last weekend that I got the idea to do it as a skit auditioning as a New Kids back up dancer!💡!! How perfect to include them since they’re such a big part of my world & incidentally are about to kick-off the 2nd run of their Vegas residency next Saturday & I’m going!! It’s how we’ve been planning for over a year to celebrate!! What could be better?!

So … thanks for the unauthorized cameo guys! And hey, if you do need another dancer I can pack that outfit 😉😆💃🏻 What say? 🤣

I don’t know how you’ve already had 19 birthdays but here we are! The last of the “teens” 🥹 proof that time flies and even though I don’t catch pics of you as often, here’s a few from some of the greatest moments this past year (no extended reel this time 😉) and even though most of them may be just us eating 🤭 well we’ve had so much to celebrate! Dad & I are extremely proud of you & all the joy you continue to bring us each year ~ Love you!

Living here, it hits different because every day is “Dolly Day” in Sevier county. She put this place on the map & we’ve been so proud to call her home ours too! I’m so happy they’ve now given her a national day of recognition because no one deserves it more!! Happy #9to5day 🦋 #9to5

Happy 50th Birthday to the man who makes everything we do infinitely more fun! And he’s a pretty darned amazing husband, son, brother, father, uncle, & grandpa too! We’ve spent half our lives together now & you continue to make me laugh! Whether we’re traveling to see our favorite bands, find the nearest beach, hike a new trail (I know that’s your fave 😂), trying the best local cuisine, or just watching jeopardy together in our empty nest you make it all worthwhile and it keeps getting better! I am so grateful for our life together & to be able to celebrate this fabulous milestone with you today!

My morning walks are everything ~ especially this time of year. This song actually happened to play yesterday morning while I was doing laps in my cul-de-sac 💖 Also - it’s the live version bc for some reason @joeymcintyre #809 is not on IG music??? What gives with that? Anyways it made me☺️#endlessly

And yes, it was trash day 😆 but I just kept looking up at that gorgeous sky, a good reminder I think - whatever the day brings and amidst all the trash that may be in your path, just keep going, and look up 😉🙏❤️ by @heatherastjohn

You can’t tell me there’s anything more stunning this side of Heaven ~ we’ve had so much rain & I waited all summer to see a rainbow in this usual spot outside my front door. Well He saved up a doozy. 🥹🌈🙏 I’ve never seen so many layers!! Of course you can’t do it justice with an iPhone but if you glance through my stills I tried to capture it best I could. And I wasn’t going to set it to music but I thought I’d spare everyone my sobbing sounds - I couldn’t control the emotion. With all the suffering & uncertainties in this world we’ve still got His promise. God’s still got this.
He’s got us. ❤️
And of course our local gal, Dolly’s sweet words came to mind once again. (Maybe she had something to do with it) ☺️

That first pic capturing the sunrise just a few days ago… the others from my visits over the years. I never capture that stunning skyline without thinking about this day. Those seconds & minutes that changed history. I can’t believe it’s been 25 years. Conversations this week included describing to my son, who wasn’t born yet, the impact each moment of that morning had on every living American & every single American to come. How the emotions changed between 8:46 (most assuming a freak accident had occurred) to 9:03 and sudden realization, no, we were under attack. I set the alarms each year because it’s important to be stopped in my tracks so I can pause to remember the lives lost in those moments & exactly how I felt when each occurred & of course pray that we never experience such a day again. I also pray that we remember the way we were a nation pulled together on September 12th. One day our generation will be gone; those of us who vividly remember & recall exactly where we were, who we were with, and how we absorbed the aftermath. I was 25. Exactly half the age I am now. And now, there are 25 year olds who weren’t even born yet; or too young to remember. So it’s necessary to share with them, visit the memorials, touch those names, and pause in those moments so that we (and they) #neverforget 🇺🇸🙏 taken in National September 11 Memorial & Museum by @heatherastjohn

Just a few of the pics … 3 weeks shy of his 50th, we started off James’s birthday month with a fun filled Labor Day weekend trip! I don’t get to surprise him often but I pulled off a couple, one being time with our favorite New Yorkers. We were able to get a few hours in the big apple before heading back to NJ for the Iron Maiden & Megadeth show - yes I had a blast too - there’s nothing like live music & although I didn’t know a single song lyric, I enjoyed the whole crowd & was moved by their mutual love for a couple of bands they’d clearly loved their whole lives (I understood this) & the joy on my husband’s face was worth every moment of it!! Also, planes (from Newark airport) flying over the stadium all night was a pretty awesome ambiance!
But back to the food!!! First stop on the way up I-81, our favorite little German restaurant Edelweiss in Staunton, Va, never disappoints! Then we found a great little Italian dinner spot when we arrived in NJ. The tiramisu!! 🤌
Yes James knew about the concert tickets, but having enough time to go into the city & finally the long awaited trip to Katz’s Deli was a big surprise - I did not have what she had 🤭 (I had the tuna on rye) - so delicious!!!
Not used to staying in New Jersey another surprise (for me too) was waking up to watch that gorgeous sunrise over the skyline - a perfect way to end such a great weekend! 🌅 taken in NYC by @heatherastjohn
