I thought I’d spend the year watching from the sidelines and feeling left out but I actually spent it on the back stretch feeling more involved than ever before!

In September I was offered an incredible opportunity to be Phil’s assistant coach with the oval program! I’ve spent the last 7 months learning about coaching, communicating, speed skating and a lot about myself 😅

Phil, thank you for trusting me and valuing my thoughts and opinions about skating. Thank you for always asking for my input on programs and collaborating on ideas. You are an incredible coach and mentor and I really appreciate how much experience and passion you have for the sport.

Athletes, thank YOU for being patient with me and putting so much work in on the ice. I am amazed at how much you can learn and handle at such a young age. I’m so proud of everyone and I will always be cheering for you, and soon training and racing with you!! ❤️‍🔥🤝🏻🤩🔒💙💫

The oval is such an incredible community 🫶🏻 Thank you @philriopel @joguil @theolympicoval #ILoveThisSport 💙🧊❄️ by @heathmclean
