Did you know that global Carbon Dioxide emissions reach us all the way up here in the Arctic, close to the North Pole?

We actually measure the same rate of CO2 increase here as the rest of the world.

The problem is, here in the Arctic, we have so much snow and ice to melt, so the increased air temperature that follows increased rate of CO2 emissions, is now threatening to trigger a complete collapse of the frozen environment.

It is irrelevant WHERE the emissions come from, this is a global problem that is affecting us all - and that effect will continue to upscale as long as the global economy stays the way it is, we need the policy and decision makers globally to unite, to force the hand towards less emissions.

Imagine a future where Earth is unrecognisable. Imagine walking out your front door into something that gives you a post apocalyptic sense of reality.

That is my reality.

I live on the fastest warming place on Earth - Svalbard, in the Arctic.

Here, we are literally watching the glaciers collapse and disappear in front of our eyes. We witness the landscape change into something we can’t recognise from one year to another.

Glaciers that has stood for millennia are melting away within a handful of years - faster than we could ever have predicted with the best computer models two decades ago.

Working towards mitigating the ongoing climate crisis is our most urgent mission.

I want to make you who are watching this aware, that time is running out for the glaciers in the Arctic. It might not be personal for you yet- but I promise you, it will be in the future.

The time lapse was created with satellite images from Landsat 4 - 8 from @nasa using QGIS software. Other images are taking with my @sonyalphafemale @sonyalpha camera.

It may look all kinds of epic but honestly I’m just a dork who embraces a challenge, that have decided to pour in all the work, heart- and -soul, into living the kind of life I want.

There was never an end goal apart from being self sustainable, but a vision of a road ahead that can change depending on what shows up along the way, what priorities feels right. Do something good in this world, that matters to me. Get good at what I do, and do it well.

Happy beyond measure that we managed to orchestrate this unique NF basic glacier safety course here in Kongsfjorden (in the latter end of September at 79 degrees North - NOT a given the weather conditions would allow this!) together with incredible Svalbard experienced instructors with @mindsofnature ❄️🌞 by @heddastaerk

It feels like we live in such an absurd mad world of meaningless wars, AI insincerity and materialism - but then there’s places that are still so wild, so incredibly wild. Somewhere all of this is madness does simply not exist.

And that just gives my tiny heart hope, that some day humanity will wake up and realise that they are also a part of nature. And without it, there is no humanity. by @heddastaerk
