Description:
Ä.D.N & 3EM were two colectives from San Sebastian & Mieres (Asturias) involved in the international mail art scene during the late 80s & early 90’s. They produced and exchanged tapes, graphic art, music, fanzines...together with other groups like S.T.I. (Sindicato de Trabajos Imaginarios), Avant-Dernières Pensées, Victor Nubla or ADN (Italy). This mix showcases some of the closest collaborators of these two collectives ÄDN (Donostia-San Sebastian) & 3EM (Equipo Estetico Etica Makinal). Music by Linea Tactica, Mataparda, Abstrart, Ana Sanz, Etica Makinal, Abstrart, Aztec Airlines...

Iker Munduate - Sinkronia

Continuing from where he left it 2 years ago after a sold out debut LP released on Hegoa, Iker is back with his follow up “Sinkronia”. A gripping take on Eastern and Western minimalist traditions influenced by the likes of Steve Reich, Suso Saiz or Midori Takada. Transcendental and esoteric rhythmic wonders that take time to unfold. A young percussionist and guitar player with electronic interests displaying a rich sonority and a great sense of structure and arrangements. This record shows the refinement of Iker’s attributes, who initially worked in the noise/punk scene and now is part of the local Free Jazz/Improv landscape of San Sebastian, although he currently lives in New York where he has been playing several gigs including a rendition of Glenn Branca’s Symphony No.13 at Lincoln center with 100 guitarists. For this new album he uses Xylophone, hand drums, electric guitar, synths and percussion instruments that guide us in an energetic way to territories somewhere between Italian avant-garde, Japanese New Age and American Minimalism.

Introducing the work of painter Diego Matxinbarrena (Donostia-San Sebastián, 1961)

Author of the paint used for the cover of Sinkronia, new album by Iker Munduate out next week, Diego is a self taught painter who develop his art practice in workshops at Arteleku Donostia (multidisciplinary art center in the field of contemporary art during the years 1987-2002) where he became a resident artist towards the end. Diego constructs forms in space, and everything he draws belongs to the city, where he finds inspiration during his walks—in the shapes of urban furniture. Nowadays he uses only found materials to paint, wood, cork, clothing or textile fabrics.

Together with painting, he also played drums for a short period in M-ak, seminal cult New wave/post-punk band from the Basque Country.

Nueva Canción Vasca 1967-72

Nueva Canción Vasca was a movement that originated in the 60’s to preserve and renew Basque cultural identity, given the socio-political context at the time. Oral tradition and modern poetry became the tools for freedom and resistance against the censorship of the Franco regime.
This mix is an attempt to reclaim authorship from the current historical narrative and shift the focus onto the female figures that didn’t get the recognition, as once again, credit has been mostly given to men (Mikel Laboa, Antton Valverde, Xabier Lete…).
