Athens in London for a minute ~ ✨ A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra, a film by the brilliant Jaqueline Lentzou, who won the Orizzonti Award for Best Director at the 83rd Venice Film Festival, premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. Cast, crew and friends visited the gallery after the screening and discovered works which somehow felt resonant and connected to the film - no spoilers, go see it and you will understand why! ✨ A different kind of premiere, the first time that works from the Irene Y. Panagopoulos Collection travel abroad. “Revisiting: Fernweh, or Nostalgia for Unknown Lands” curated by Katerina Hadji, opened at the Hellenic Centre earlier this month. The exhibition explores Greece as a symbolic construct of both past and present, escaping fixed notions of place. ✨ Athens-born artist Kyvèli Zoi presented her debut UK solo exhibition at Soup Gallery. “Communication Breakdown”, curated by Megan Macnaughton, casts communication difficulties as the emotional hinterland between intimacy and isolation. ✨ In our viewing room ~ Coinciding with the major contemporary art exhibition DEI Meets Art Vol.2 in Athens, sculptures from Irini Bachlitzanaki’s series of works inspired by components used in power distribution networks are on view at the gallery. How do film and media shape the way we understand violence against women? Join us for a thought-provoking discussion exploring femicide in Greece through the lens of cinema. In collaboration with @thegardencinema. Drawing on two emblematic Greek films, Stella (1955) and John the Violent (1973), an all-female panel: former judge Betty Iliadou (@greek_female_society), Dr. Tonia Kazakopoulou (@toniakds) and Dr. Afroditi Koulaxi will examine how gender inequality and violence against women are represented and continue to be justified. 📅 Thursday 19 November, 19:00 📍 The Hellenic Centre 🎟️ £5/£4 concession | book via the link in bio #GreekCinema #WomenAndFilm #LondonCinema by @helleniccentre

Please join my 'In Conversation: Christos Dikeakos and Emily Butler' @helleniccentre London, Thursday 29 Oct 2026, 7 pm. Catch us also for drinks in the bar before and after! https://lnkd.in/erEBzesA This talk offers a journey through five decades of Christos Dikeakos’ #christosdikeakos artistic practice. In conversation with curator Emily Butler, Dikeakos will reflect on key works that marked his career, including the series  Sites and Places: Athens (1986-1997).  At once archival and conceptual, these works reflect on the layered nature of history, the continual movement of cultures, and the enduring, shape-shifting presence of Greek mythology within present-day life. These investigations led to the series Sites and Places: Vancouver (1990-2015), a series that engages deeply with the pre-colonial histories of North America, while also probing the mythic and deep historical strata within a place. by @helleniccentre
