The crazy thing about Home Alone 2 is that some of its most memorable “New York” moments were actually filmed in Chicago and its suburbs. 🤯

The Plaza Hotel didn’t have a swimming pool, so the filmmakers needed another location.

🎥 Chicago was a natural choice for the production and since the film was written by Chicago-based filmmaker John Hughes, much of the movie was filmed in the Chicago area, even though the story takes place in New York.

Good news is, you can visit it!! The scene was filmed at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, at 120 East Delaware Place. The movie simply presents it as the Plaza’s pool 🤗

🎬 some other fun facts:

🧸🚂 Duncan’s Toy Chest was actuallly…

👉🏻The exterior was the Rookery Building; the interior was filmed in Chicago’s historic Uptown Theatre.

✨Kevin’s luxurious hotel suite

👉🏻 The grand suite shown at the end of the movie, when Kevin’s family reunites with him, was filmed at the Hilton Chicago…not the Plaza.

🎼🎺The concert hall was actually…

👉🏻 Chicago Symphony Center
The beautiful hall where Kevin and the Pigeon Lady attend the Christmas concert doubled for Carnegie Hall in New York.

And most of the airport scenes were all filmed at Ohare!

📌 Send this to your Home Alone-obsessed friend because we literally KNOW we all have at least one. 😂👇

✨ And follow along @hello_angelarose for more unexpected adventures, meaningful travel with little kids, and the places that make childhood magical. ❤️

🚨 THE PLAZA IS CLOSING FOR 4 YEARS IN JANUARY. FOUR. YEARS. 😭🎄

The Plaza Hotel is closing for a major renovation and restoration project to preserve its historic interiors, refresh guest rooms, and modernize the iconic property for the future.

I saw this on the news last night and feel soo sad! If you’ve been saying you’ll take your kids to The Plaza “someday,” let this be your sign to GO NOW.

Because 4 years from now, those little hands will be bigger. Their Christmas wishes will be different. And the little kids who would’ve been completely mesmerized by the lights, the Christmas trees, the window displays, and the magic of it all? They’ll be a little less little and may not even want to go. 🥹

The Plaza is truly so iconic. It’s not just a beautiful hotel. It’s the kind of place that makes childhood feel like a real life Christmas movie. ✨

Yes, it’s magical in every season. But Christmas? It’s the kind of memory your kids might not remember every detail of…but you’ll remember the way their eyes lit up.

You can always go when they’re older, but you def can’t get these little years back. ❤️

Save this as your sign to book the trip, wear the festive outfits, order the hot chocolate, and make the memories NOW.

🎄 Comment “NYC” for the most perfect holiday with kids itinerary and 👉🏻 send this to the person who needs to plan a NYC Christmas trip with their kids!

If New York City at Christmas is on your family bucket list, save this because these are the experiences I’d plan our trip around again and again. 👇🏻

✨ Where to stay: We loved BOTH the Sofitel near Times Square and Lotte New York Palace. Sofitel was a great home base for getting around, and Lotte Palace felt like stepping into a Christmas movie. If you can swing it, the holiday atmosphere at Lotte is something special!

🎄 See the DUMBO Christmas lights and get pizza. Brooklyn is worth the trip for the holiday magic, photo ops, and gorgeous city views. (Our exact tour is in my itinerary, and I’d re-do it every year, it was so fun)

🫖 Book afternoon tea at The Plaza or see a Broadway show. Dress the kids in their Christmas outfits and make it an experience. Yes, it’s a splurge, but it’s the kind of memory you’ll remember forever 🥹

✨ Make the decorations the activity. The holiday windows, giant Christmas trees, sparkling storefronts, and over-the-top displays are an experience all on their own. You don’t need a ticket to anything to make the city feel magical.

💰 How to budget for NYC at Christmas:

• Book your hotel early. Holiday rates can be WILD, so compare locations and total costs before committing.

• Pick 1–2 paid experiences you’re genuinely excited about and build the rest of your itinerary around free holiday sights.

• Use the subway and walk whenever practical instead of relying on taxis.

• Mix iconic restaurants with casual pizza stops, bakeries, and quick meals.

• Set aside money for the little things (hot chocolate, holiday treats, and those irresistible Christmas shops 😂).

My biggest tip? Don’t try to do EVERYTHING. Plan a few special experiences, leave room to wander, and let the city itself be part of the magic. 🍎🌃🚕

🎄 SAVE this for your NYC Christmas trip!

And comment NYC if you want more family travel tips for planning a magical trip without blowing your entire holiday budget. 👇🏻

👉🏻 the kind of fall afternoon craft they’ll ask to do every single year 🍂🥹

I babysat my friend’s daughter and we made our own little gorgeous tree using nothing but cardboard, tape, and the prettiest leaves we could find on our lil walk (swiped from my neighbors front yard…thanks Paul and Karen😉)

It was the BEST afternoon. And so simple 🫶🏻

🍁 Cut a hole in a piece of cardboard
🍁 Draw a little tree trunk underneath
🍁 Put tape across the back with the sticky side facing forward
🍁 Head outside to hunt for the most beautiful fall leaves
🍁 Let them create their very own masterpiece!

No expensive supplies, no complicated setup, just fresh air, tiny hands, and a little fall magic. 🤎

I have a feeling this is going to be one of those simple childhood traditions they’ll want to recreate every autumn.

📌 Save this for your next fall afternoon with little kids! 🍂

✨ Follow along @hello_angelarose for more low-effort, memory-making activities that will still make their childhood magical…without making mom do the absolute most 🫶🏻 taken in St. Louis, Missouri by @hello_angelarose

A 5 and 6 year-old. A busy, rainy piazza…one gelato stand, and NO parents with them in line.

Maybe 15 years ago, this wouldn’t have seemed like a big deal. But today, so many kids are anxious or nervous to order their own food, ask a question, or even talk to an unfamiliar adult…especially one who might speak a different language…

One of the biggest takeaways I got from reading “The Anxious Generation” is that *confidence comes from competence*

Kids become capable when we give them opportunities to practice.

Small moments like this teach communication, problem-solving, independence, and self-confidence far better than any lecture from me or their dad ever could.

Today it was just gelato…but tomorrow it’s navigating an airport, advocating for themselves, making a phone call, or handling a challenge without immediately looking for an adult to step in.

Would your 5-year-old do this? 🍦👇

POV: You stop waiting for the perfect weekend and just take your kids camping for one night. 🏕️

You don’t need a crazy big itinerary or expensive vacay…just a split-second decision to pack up, find somewhere close, and go.

But this one night outside was exactly what our whole family needed. 🤎 And after a morning football game with the most beautiful fall weather, we decided to just throw everything in the car and go.

The boys got to explore, get dirty, help set up camp, and feel like little adventurers. We got fresh air, slower conversations, and a reminder that sometimes the best family memories come from doing LESS.

✨My 4 fave camping tips for families with little kids:

🏕️ 1. Make the first trip ridiculously easy. Pick a campground within an hour of home. If bedtime goes sideways, you’re not stranded far away in the wilderness. 😂

🔦 2. Give little ones a real job. Let your 4 or 5-year-old collect kindling, be in charge of the flashlight, or help roll out sleeping bags. Having a meaningful role builds confidence, independence, and that “I can do hard things” feeling.

🌲 3. Don’t overplan the fun. Let them fish, throw rocks, or just do nothing….Nature becomes the entertainment, and you don’t have to be the cruise director.

☀️ 4. Leave the next morning open. Make pancakes, drink your coffee while it’s still warm (hey, a mom can dream), and let the kids explore before packing up. The slower pace is half the magic.

You don’t need a week off, a perfect setup, or kids who sleep perfectly in a tent to make this worth it.

⛅️ Sometimes one night away (and 24 hrs of fresh air) is more than enough to reset everyone’s mood, reconnect as a family, and remind you that adventure doesn’t have to be big or complicated to be meaningful.

Save this for the weekend you need a reset, and send it to the mom who needs to just GO. 🏕️ taken in Meramec Caverns by @hello_angelarose

🎃 My favorite kind of kids’ activity 👉🏻 cute enough for the memories, easy enough that I don’t hate doing it 💀

✨ You don’t need a Pinterest-worthy Halloween craft to make your kids’ childhood magical.

🌭Try this easy recipe instead. Prep is 10 minutes, and bake time is 10 minutes…🤌🏻

Kids love making it almost as much as they love eating it!

📌 Save this for one of those October nights (or days) when your kids want to “DO SOMETHING FUN” and you have absolutely nothing planned. 😂

These mummy dogs are such an easy fall tradition to start…festive, kid-approved, but actually realistic for busy moms. Even my 11 yr old ate 3 when he came home from his friends house 🤌🏻

One of the SINGLE most important things we can teach our boys while they’re LITTLE?

Consent. Respect. Boundaries.

Being brave enough to stand up for someone when you seeing others doing something bad. And equipping them with the tools to grow into boys who make other people feel SAFE.

We teach them to ask before touching or hugging.
To STOP when someone says stop.

That they don’t get to tease, pressure, chase, touch, or keep asking until someone gives in.

To know that when someone is being quiet, it isn’t the same as saying yes.

And that being a good friend, boyfriend, husband, or man means actually caring about how the other person feels.

Because raising boys who respect girls doesn’t start when they are teens who begin dating 👉🏻 it starts on the playground.

All little boys need to grow up knowing that strength isn’t about getting your way…it’s having enough respect to hear someone’s “no” and honor it 👏🏻

🚨 Boy moms, save this…and please send it to another mom raising boys, so we can normalize teaching this from the very beginning. taken in St. Louis, Missouri by @hello_angelarose

Don’t make the mistake of only visiting Nice. 👀🇫🇷

Just 35 minutes away by train is one of my absolute favorite colorful seaside towns (that so many tourists skip) and it always ends up being one of our kids’ favorite days in the South of France. 🍋

🚆 Take the train from Nice to Menton 👉🏻 it’s cheap, easy, and the ride hugs the coastline the entire way.

Here’s why it’s worth it:

✨ Crystal-clear water that looks straight out of the Caribbean

🏖️ Calm beaches where kids can swim, collect sea glass, and skip rocks

🍦 Incredible gelato and fresh pastries around every corner

🍋 The famous lemon-filled streets and colorful Old Town that feels like walking through a postcard

⚓ A beautiful harbor that’s perfect for wandering with little ones

Save this for your South of France itinerary, send it to the person you’d bring🙋🏼‍♀️🇫🇷

🌈 Comment “MENTON” if you want my exact family-friendly day itinerary with train tips, beaches, restaurants, and hidden gem spots for the kiddos 👙🏖️
