We want to say a huge thank you to all who attended and helped organise Cancer Metabolism last week in Bilbao 🎉

In particular, the Scientific Programme Committee for all the dedication they put into the great science showcased in the conference:

Arkaitz Carracedo (Chair), Patricia Altea, Lydia Finley, Ayelet Erez

And, of course, all of the fantastic speakers who made the scientific programme so engaging.

We're looking forward to hosting our next conference, Chromosomes in Crisis! See you next month in Berlin ✈️ by @helloeacr

Patient perspectives shape cancer research at every stage – not only how care is delivered, but what gets researched in the first place.

For our 2026 Science Communication Prize, we want to read your case studies on what patient involvement really looks like in practice. The application is open to all career stages and the winner gets published in The Cancer Researcher and a free registration to an EACR conference of their choice.

Send in your applications by 9 November 2026 - find all of the details in The Cancer Researcher call for applications, linked in our bio @helloeacr by @helloeacr

Nearly all EACR virtual conference participants have said that the impact goes beyond the day itself: 93% left with new research ideas they're now pursuing, and 98% want EACR to keep running virtual conferences alongside in-person events - a clear sign this format is shaping real work and inspiring direct change.

ecDNA and the Genomic Chaos of Cancer | Virtual Event : 23-24 February 2027

Recent recognition of ecDNA’s enabling role as a hallmark of cancer - particularly as it results from and promotes genome instability - has highlighted the critical need to better understand its underlying biology.

Advances in the field are happening rapidly, and this first EACR virtual conference on the topic will address some of the most recent exciting science that promises to transform our understanding of cancer and translate into benefit for patients.

Not every researcher can jump on a plane to attend a conference.

For researchers on maternity leave, with caring responsibilities, or facing funding constraints, virtual conferences can be the difference between staying connected to their field or missing out entirely.

Our six years of data show that virtual conferences aren't simply a substitute for in-person events. For many researchers, they're the only realistic way to take part.
