Asya Geisberg Gallery is pleased to announce Dib Bangkok’s acquisition of eight paintings by Melanie Daniel. @hellsbellsdaniel @dibbangkok

Melanie Daniel’s successful January 2026 show at Asya Geisberg Gallery, “Here a Dead Leaf Fell,” garnered a New York Times review. Daniel has had six solo exhibitions with the gallery since 2011, and she curated a group exhibition “A Window Scrubbed For the Moon” at AGG in 2022.

Past solo exhibitions include Galleri Christoffer Egelund, Copenhagen; DK; Hiro Hiro Art Space, Taipei, TW; Mindy Solomon Gallery, FL; the Grand Rapids Art Museum, MI; South Bend Museum of Art, IN; Maybaum Gallery, CA; Tel Aviv Museum of Art; Shulamit Gallery, CA; and Kelowna Art Gallery, BC; among others.

Daniel’s work is in the collections of Harvard Business School, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and the Girl’s Club/Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz Collection, among others. She is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant, a Creative Capital Grant, NARS Foundation Residency, and the Padnos Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at Grand Valley State University, MI.

Daniel is participating in the 2026 Pictura Trienniale de Peinture de Montreal with Patrick Mikhail Gallery, and has an upcoming solo exhibition at Mindy Solomon Gallery in January 2027.

In 2025, Thailand opened its doors to Dib Bangkok, its first major museum dedicated to international contemporary art. Located in a repurposed 71,000-square-foot 1980s steel warehouse, the name – “Dib,” translating to “raw” or “authentic state” – sets the tone for its serene vision of history, tranquility and architecture. The redesign is helmed by architect Kulapat Yantrasast of WHY Architecture, the group behind the ongoing overhaul at the Louvre in Paris.

I am pleased to announce that DIB Bangkok has acquired eight works for its permanent collection! 💗 I am honored and grateful to the galleries I work with to have facilitated this acquisition and thrilled to see my work join the collection of one of Asia's newest leading contemporary art museums.

In 2025, Thailand opened its doors to Dib Bangkok, its first major museum dedicated to international contemporary art. Located in a repurposed 71,000-square-foot 1980s steel warehouse, the name – “Dib,” translating to “raw” or “authentic state” – sets the tone for its serene vision of history, tranquility and architecture. The redesign is helmed by architect Kulapat Yantrasast of WHY Architecture, the group behind the ongoing overhaul at the Louvre in Paris. Showcasing over 1,000 works by more than 200 artists, the museum’s offerings will span painting, sculpture, photography, large-scale installations and new media, largely from the 1990s onward. Its first exhibition, titled Invisible Presence, will feature works by Montien Boonma, Lee Bul, Anselm Kiefer and Alicja Kwade, honoring the legacy of the founder’s late father Petch Osathanugrah, whose personal collection serves as the institution’s foundation.Housed under a skylit, sawtooth roof, the three-story museum will comprise eleven galleries, including the cone-shaped “Chapel,” designed as a meditative space for immersive installations. Additional architectural features include a 15,000-square-foot-central-courtyard, an outdoor sculpture garden and traditional Thai-Chinese window frames and ceilings, preserved from the building’s original architecture.

🕊Here's a smaller painting called, "Fleeting Swallows Shimmer" from my present solo, Some Listeners Heal Us Without Reply, at Galleri Christoffer Egelund, Copenhagen. Until September 18th.

While preparing the works for this show, I wanted the entire exhibition transports us to a feverish nature-world, in which each painting remains still, at a distance from our current moment, in some wrinkle of space-time that seems familiar.

For my fourth solo with Galleri Christoffer Egelund, "Some Listeners Heal Us Without Reply", I was thinking of the way nature asks for nothing from us, all the while nurturing and sustaining us. I make a point of being under the sky once a day, and if I can make it to the seashore or muck around in my plants, even better. I am momentarily healed, reset. We are so small, so insignificant, in the grand scheme of things. It pays to be reminded that we have only just arrived on this planet and the flora and fauna know things we don't.

I made a slightly different but much larger version of a painting that I exhibited in NY last January. It was an image that needed to be revisited. Headwall and Recluse, 2026, oil on canvas, 149.4X129.5cm.

🌲 "Daniel has often played with embedding her figures into the landscape, and here the strategy grows symbolic legs. A hatted woman, in a sort of Stone Age sheath or medieval cloak, hovers in the paintings: sometimes camouflaged as in “Headwall and Recluse” or standing in a fishing boat in “Where Shadows Loiter Cool”. She could be a forgotten deity, or oracular truthteller. Animals and birds such as wolves, squirrels and sparrows add symbolic meanings. Daniel’s pulsing brushstrokes unify what is above and below, the micro- and macrocosmos, providing equal footing for the creatures and lone figures. In “Spirit Free, Endless Sky” a regal figure flanked by a white wolf oversees a dry summer mountainside and darkening sky. “Waterlily Voices” features a blue-skinned woman between the twilight forest and its reflection in the pond, collecting the light of her lantern. Mushrooms appear in several paintings, hinting at the mycelial cycle of regeneration, or with a split night sky exploding with stars in “Sapphired Path”."
