In 2022, I took a huge risky leap and started working for myself.
4 years later I am in the middle of the busiest prom and wedding season I've ever had!
I get to work with lovely people on beautiful treasures, and I'm honored to have a hand in your everyday wardrobes and special occasions. It feels like November just started, but if you've got family events, office parties, friendsgivings, or holiday parties throughout December, come see me SOON! how long does it take to replace a zipper on a fabulously fancy beaded and bedazzled gown? Spoiler:

124 min- just over 2 hours! Half an hour was hand sewing beads back on, so the zipper replacement itself was really about 90 min.

Easiest part was actually adding the zip to the beaded layer- taking it slowly is essential bc of the delicate fabric and the huge beads and rhinestones, but no problem otherwise.

Longest part was seam ripping the old zip out- 26 min! I have to be super careful not to hurt the fabric so a new zipper can be added.

Hardest part was sewing the bodice lining to the zipper. This dress has a beaded outer layer that is see-through, a main body lining that is black, and a separate lining piece that goes from the waist up. That extra lining (actually called a facing) keeps the straps and neckline laying nicely, but reattaching it means I had to turn part of the neckline inside out to sew it. Turning it right side out again actually took a few minutes of gently pulling and guiding the beads out of the little tube of fabric. Once that was done, though, you have a lovely clean finish that is totally worth it!

Come out to The Vault this Saturday, April 5th for a special day. Our on-site seamstress Mig will be at the shop all day.
