Book 71 was Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel by Lucy Foley. Foley was chosen by Agatha Christie's family to bring Miss Marple back to life in a new mystery. I've never read Christie or Foley so it was a brand new experience all around for me. It was a great whodunit! The setting is a hotel isolated in the mountains of Switzerland and it takes place a few years after WWII ends. The story unfolds from a variety of first person narrators (which I love!) with one notable exception: Miss Marple herself. We are to listen and observe and absorb and filter what we are seeing and hearing, and try to figure out the mystery before Miss Marple reveals what she knows as told to another character. I don't know if future Marple books by Foley are on the way but I'd be delighted if there are! by @hencelisa

Book 70 is Make Nice by Ryan Effgen. I love it when I start a book and it just engages me right away--this was one of those books. The story, the writing, the beautiful narration by Helen Laser pulled me in. We meet a family spending a week together on the island where they vacationed together years ago to celebrate and remember their mother who has passed. With all the old hurts and memories and new trials and tribulations, mom doesn't get much attention as we follow Viv, Corey and Pete, their dad, and Viv's daughter throughout the week. I find family interactions very fascinating, and this one did not disappoint. by @hencelisa

Book 69 The Names by Florence Knapp. An English woman heads to register her newborn son's name. She has three names in mind: one her husband insists upon, one that she likes, and one suggested by her daughter. We follow three storylines in this book, each showcasing how her choice of names affects the son, the daughter, the husband, and her, among others. This is less about the actual name itself affecting the son himself and more about how lives are affected by the choice she makes. Caution: there is a strong through line of domestic violence that can be hard to stomach. The book was an excellent read. by @hencelisa

Last year on my birthday, I decided to do 59 things for my 59th year. Today, I turn 60 and turned up the challenge a bit: 60 classics in my 60s. A decade-long project to try to fill in the gaps of great books I've never read. I am an avid reader but somehow didn't read many of the classics, so here we go starting with Pride and Prejudice

What are your favorite classics? What should be on my list? by @hencelisa

When I turned 59 last year, I felt like I wanted to take control of my life so I decided to do 59 things at age 59. My list is in the comments. There were some plot twists and the last one was one I could not have foreseen. The year has been filled with ups and downs and sideways twists and joy and happiness and dreams coming true. So many people contributed to this fabulous year, some knowing and some who had no clue that they were participating in this experiment of "59 at 59." My list of what I accomplished is in comments. by @hencelisa

Book 68 was The Summer Guests by Tess Gerritsen. This is book 2 of the Martini Club series. I read most of this book on the flights home from California. I love the characters and intricate plot lines. Again our former spies find themselves in the middle of a mystery (or is it mysteries?) involving the titular summer guests in their small Maine community. Family secrets, government secrets, a missing girl, and old bones form the plot of this one. Kept me riveted to the end. by @hencelisa

Book 67 is "The Spy Coast" by Tess Gerritsen. I found this book recently on my Kindle and kind of fell in love with the characters and their stories. Retired group of spies living in Maine. When one of their own is threatened, they spring into action. A thoroughly enjoyable story made better by the fact that there are two more in the series waiting for me. Book 2 is about to get started as I wait for my flight. by @hencelisa

I spent the last weekend of being 59 with some of my favorite people and some new friends: my guy @coachjack53142, my niece @its_ana_444, @mrcheyennejackson, @michaelorland, @amytangerine, and @chamberlin.kevin

Each of you made the weekend special for me in your own way. Thanks for the love!

Special shout out to @gaydaysanaheim for the format that you chose for Cheyenne's show. It was brilliant! I have seen Cheyenne 8 times over the past 3.5 years, and during this show, I got to hear so many songs that I've never heard him sing live before. The literal icing on the (upcoming) birthday cake. What an unexpected gift. Thanks and Kudos!

A note about the song I chose for this post: Celebrate Your Face by Cheyenne Jackson. This song has meant so much to me. A few years ago when life was rough and I didn't feel worthy, the words in this song served as gentle encouragement to celebrate myself... to see all the beauty...to see all the colors. And now that the worst of the storms have past ( + therapy), these same words hit differently. Celebrate Your face is now more of a rock anthem for me that I sing loudly, proudly, and terribly off-key in my car. I am worthy of being celebrated. I do see all the colors and all the beauty and it's amazing. Thank you, Cheyenne, for this song.

Over the past 3 years I've found a peace and happiness that I am not sure I've ever had and it's a wonderful way to approach 60: I have the audacity to ask for and accept the abundance that the universe sends me. Let's do this!! taken in Orange County, California by @hencelisa
