Discomfort.

There has been so much to reflect on this past year though the point that comes up repeatedly is how discomfort is dealt with by myself, others, and between individuals.

The jokes that the younger generation is soft are constantly growing in our culture with sayings such as "kids these days . . . ". I don't know what the main contributing factors are, but I do know what may help.

We will all deal with discomfort in many forms especially in relationships with others. At some point conflict will occur if a relationship sticks around and is deep. It seems as if we all plan we will not encounter such discomfort in our relationships based on how most individuals react and cope. Or we hope that we can bullshit our way through relationships by being nice, but that's a great way to build resentment.

No one is perfect, not even myself despite how cool I may seem ;). But I do think the one salient lesson that has been strong this year is that one needs to have a strong principle of working towards resolution with others.

This won't work with everyone as most seem to crumble at the thought of dealing with such issues. But if we continually falter how can one build enough resilience to deal with the difficult events in life?

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. by @henrylaupt

Here is a video of my sending this v5 with a pair of meta ray bans.

But more importantly . . .

Someone said to me that as we get older our negative ways become even more apparent. I think it is a path one can take, though my thought was that as we age we have more time to refine ourselves. Therefore, we have the opportunity to slowly improve how we react to unpleasant events in life and how to navigate life to get a better squeeze of joy, happiness, pleasure, grief, sadness or whatever you want out of the moment you are presently in to fully experience it.

We all get a choice in how we act, I am not perfect by any means, but I will put in the effort to make better choices with each and every event on all parts of the spectrum.

Are knee sleeves worth it?

These SBD knee sleeves add about 40lbs on my 3 rep squat. This was a week later, so maybe it's possible I added 40lbs in that timeframe 😏.

How much do they add to your squat?

You let me know in the comments.

I believe for most people outside of powerlifting, you don't need knee sleeves. Yes, they add to your lift, but only with them on. If we are training for general strength, it's better to avoid adding more complexity in this case. by @henrylaupt

First v6 in a while and of the new year 😄

Interesting that one dude said I was going to fall off the second to last move, that was one of the easier moves! by @henrylaupt

2024 was one of the most insightful years I have had on this planet.

There were so many moments that I reflected on with a lots of lessons to ingrain as if it I was adding onto my character skills in an RPG. There were fruitful lessons from the joyful times and possibly even more from the unpleasant stretches from this year. I deeply understand how important it is to be physically resilient seeing so many cases from work but this year was lesson about on how to be mentally resilient built with more patience, more compassion, and a better understanding for oneself.

This year has shaped my lens on how I view this world so I may navigate with more finesse. The events, the travels, and the relationships I've encountered have ranged from gently nudging to abruptly uprooting me.

There were so many nuances to instill and it will take more reflection, but if there is one important lesson this year encouraged was to be authentically nice to oneself.

Have a great 2025. by @henrylaupt

Respect.

My experience in Tokyo was incredibly novel, I've never experienced a city with such nuances. The baseline level of respect changed my perspective of what a level of respect could be accomplished within a society. I didn't think this could be executed on such a large scale. It's made me yearn for this in my surroundings and circles. Even the pigeons felt safe with me walking so close to them!

Individuals would put in real effort to not be a burden, even the little things such as not listening to music loudly and using headphones instead. It went as far as there being signs for tourists to not wear strong smelling cologne or body spray to not disturb those via smell! Even though tourists didn't understand this, most natives seemed tolerant of this as they understood they were implicitly rude. I bet even at times I was doing something offending and didn't know it despite my efforts.

It was a good lesson to learn again; to make sure that I put forth effort towards endeavors even if I made mistakes. The mistakes were points where I could learn, change, and move forward building upon them as opposed to a reactive, negative emotion where I sulk in failure getting nothing accomplished.

The food here was amazing. Everywhere was so good and especially the places that were not blown up on youtube or Instagram. In fact, I would say the more posts and hype a place had, the higher the likelihood it wasn't that good. Japanese culture has this humbleness about it and it is counter to doing a lot of self promotion, it seems that a lot of good places let others do the talking or let their food showcase their deliciousness in a quiet fashion. Only one drawback, not enough phytos, but otherwise great!

I am glad this was the last leg of my trip because the previous locations really set me up to appreciate it. These posts don't do it justice, I would say anyone that has the opportunity to visit Tokyo, take it!

Much thanks to @bryce_trainer for showing me around!

Sayonara Tokyo. by @henrylaupt

The Hong Kong leg of my trip brought on many emotions and changed the way I want to interact with this world.

Hong Kong's wealth disparity, inconsideration from others, and its lack of healthy food selection has left me with a lot of distaste for the city but has really shown me what values I care about. I learn more in discomfort than I do in pleasure, so this was a fruitful lesson.

Hong Kong has its positives though it lacks any redeeming qualities. The type of culture it pushes onto its people; the work with extreme diligence with no reward, give to your country but you'll still need to work well into old age, and the lack of individuality because it has been beaten out of them.

Everyone's values are carbon copies of each other with no depth for anything because they don't know any better. It makes sense why my parents had identical values of other parents there when I was growing up. It is baffling how strong the culture permeates into its people. It doesn't seem many people have the opportunity to dive deep into hobbies. Individuals at the rock gym were working hard because it was what is expected, it didn't matter if you did it with a smile or without.

This place breeds such a dog eat dog world but with no reason for it. When I got onto the buses, as I was getting off no one gave any courtesy while I looked them in the eye as they pushed to close the distance so I couldn't get off without bumping into them. This was the same on the streets and in the malls. At some points, I would be tired of making space for people when I believe I clearly had the right of way and they were surprised when I bumped into them. It is a case where one's patience may be worn away if pushed against long enough, I am no monk with infinite resolve.

Nat and Rua's wedding crystalized what it means to be in special union, one that two individuals have an existence synergistically together that creates a sum as a whole which is greater than the parts themselves, for me.

I had that idea in my head but I never knew what it really meant, what that would look like in the real world, or what it would encompass. But this weekend has helped me understand that much better.

Rua said when he heard people say they are marrying their best friends, he immediately thought "Bullshit!". I've also thought the same until now. I'm about understanding the nuances in life to help maximize important aspects and I believe this idea is worth getting it as right as you can. I think that once people understand what it really means to be a team, the idea is ultra powerful.

To me now, weddings are a celebration of two individuals that have authentically accomplished such a feat in a landscape of faux ones as 1 out of every 2 marriages fail. On top of the celebration, I now believe weddings are events to help others realize this in a sense that each wedding is symbolically lighting another's candle to help shed light on this idea with one's own candle at no cost to the one doing the lighting.

That was this wedding.

I feel honored to have been invited as I know Rua has a low tolerance for most other humans. I'm glad Marcos didn't die from the psychological stress of going up another mountain on a road that was about 10ft wide with two way traffic, half unpaved for some reason at random points, and had grades that were so step at points you could only see the sky but for all the psychological distress he had, I had a similar level of fun bombing up and down that long road twice!

You've changed my mind about weddings, I truly enjoyed this one for so many other aspects I mentioned and also ones I haven't mentioned.

Congratulations Natalie and Rua, onward on your new game plus. by @henrylaupt
