We thought we missed the volcano eruption by ONE day… but the overnight stay at Volcano House made it completely worth it 🌋

Drove from Kona across the Big Island, stopped at the black sand beach known for sea turtles, explored steam vents and massive craters at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, grabbed lunch from a tiny Thai food truck, and checked into Volcano House with very low expectations.

By night, the crater slowly started glowing orange from the lava still visible after the previous night’s eruption… and somehow even that tiny glimpse felt magical ✨

The overnight stay ended up being one of our favorite parts of the Big Island trip.

Next morning: lava tubes, rainforest walks, breakfast, and the drive to Waikoloa

We waited in the cold. We weren’t even sure it would happen. We walked in the snow carrying ALL our stuff from the parking lot to see the magic.

And then for a few minutes.. Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park started glowing!

This was the first Firefall of 2026 — and it did not disappoint. 🔥

If you’re planning to see it:
👉The park gets REALLY full. Arrive early if you want a good viewing spot for Horsetail Fall.
👉There’s traffic and limited parking.

But when the light hits just right? Just magic.

If you’re looking for the perfect day trip from London, put Cambridge at the top of your list. 🇬🇧

Just about an hour by train, Cambridge feels like stepping into another world. The highlight of our visit was a chauffeured punting tour along the River Cam. Floating past the historic colleges and bridges while hearing the stories behind them was one of the most memorable experiences of our UK trip.

We booked with Scudamore’s Punting Company, one of Cambridge’s oldest punting operators, and had a great experience. If it’s your first time, I’d definitely recommend a chauffeured tour so you can relax and enjoy the views while your guide shares the history of the city.

Never imagined we’d be watching professional cricket at the Oakland Coliseum, but here we are, and it was so much fun.

From the moment we walked in, the energy was incredible. The crowd was loud, every boundary had everyone on their feet, and the atmosphere made the whole experience so entertaining.

Whether you’re a lifelong cricket fan or have never watched a match before, Major League Cricket is absolutely worth experiencing in person. We had the best time, and we’ll definitely be back for another game.

A few things to know before you go:
📍 Venue: Oakland Coliseum (7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland)
🚆 Getting there: One of the easiest stadiums to reach by BART, just get off at Coliseum Station and walk across the pedestrian bridge. Parking is available if you’re driving.
⏱️ Match length: About 3–3.5 hours (T20 format), making it perfect for an afternoon or evening outing.

Adding Avila Beach to our list of family-friendly California getaways.

Walkable beach town, lots of food options, playgrounds nearby, and a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to spend the day without a big plan.

Faction Brewing is one of the easiest outdoor brewery hangouts we’ve found in the Bay Area.

There’s tons of outdoor seating, SF skyline views, and rotating food trucks. It’s in the old Alameda naval base area, which gives it a very open, laid-back feel compared to a lot of packed brewery spots.

A few things to know before going:

* bring a layer because it gets windy
* sunset would probably be the best time to go
* daytime felt super casual and family-friendly

Some of our favorite Big Island food memories were completely unplanned 🌺

A random turn while driving from Kona to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park led us to a beautiful little farm with fresh coffee and amazing pizza @pizzapazzabigisland .

We randomly found @herbivoresvegancafe in Kona and loved it so much we ended up eating there 3 times 😂

A tiny Thai food truck @tuktuk_thaifoodtruck near Hilo became the perfect stop when we were tired, hungry, and desperately looking for something warm after exploring the park.

Eagle Lighthouse Cafe was such a good breakfast find near Hilo, and dinner at @nuiitalian was so good to fuel up after long water days.

The best meals on this trip weren’t fancy reservations or viral spots — they were the roadside stops, post-beach snacks, tiny cafés, and places we found by accident.

We were driving from Kona to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and were searching for a pizza place on the way 🍕

We saw a small farm sign, took the turn without thinking much about it… and ended up discovering one of our favorite spots on the Big Island.

What we expected to be a quick lunch stop turned into walking through coffee plants, avocado trees, papayas, pineapples, herbs, greenhouses, chickens, and even talking parrots 🦜🌿

We tasted their coffee and it was SO good — fresh, rich, and easily one of the best cups we had on the trip ☕

The pizza by @pizzapazzabigisland was fresh, hot, and delicious, and somehow tasted even better surrounded by tropical plants and farm views.

POV: weekend plans with kids don’t always have to mean another playground ☕️🌸

We did a simple little morning — coffee at Koin Coffee, snacks, flowers, fresh strawberries, and a slow stroll through the Diablo Valley Farmers’ Market 🫶

One of our favorite kinds of outings with our kids because it’s EASY. No long drives, no overstimulation, no planning around big activities. Just walking, chatting, picking treats, and letting them explore little things along the way ✨

Sometimes the best memories are just ordinary mornings together.

Started tennis lessons at @lifetime.activities in Walnut Creek for our 4 year old and it’s been so fun to watch 🎾

All the running, the focus, missing, trying again!

Bonus: it’s right next to Heather Farm Park, so makes for the perfect outing with kids

Stafford Lake Bike Park with a 5-year-old:

We spent most of our time in the beginner learning zone, just riding and taking breaks at our own pace. Regular bikes worked fine for us, and there was plenty of space to spread out.

There’s also a paved path if you want something more relaxed.

What helped:
• Lake right there for quick breaks
• Playground + zipline when they’re done riding
• Snacks + water (we stayed longer than planned)

We didn’t try the advanced tracks this time, saving those for later.

Good mix of riding + play in one spot.
